() Date: February 22, 2012 06:29PM Just for fun and excitement....how 'bout we try to guess and see who comes closest to the winning bid? I guess $1125.00. And NO I'm not bidding, nor do I have anything to do with this, and I do not know the person auctioning these items.I have 1 'Vair, and it already has these parts, and I don't believe I could buy these with the idea of making any money on them. () Date: February 22, 2012 07:02PM I'd buy a new quick steering box from Clark's [www.corvair.com] for $353 and short arms for $83, before I'd buy overpriced used junk. If the car didn't have original quick steering then what is the difference? Re: eBay QSB package f/s Posted by:

() Date: February 22, 2012 07:03PM Alright Mr. Barker/Carey, I bid $950 (it's the quick arms included) Regards, Joel Rushworth 1961 Rampside w/Deluxe Scamper Camper 1966 Corsized Cdn Monza Coupe 1967 UV #292 "Kick the Hell out of the Status Quo" - Ed Cole Re: eBay QSB package f/s Posted by:

() Date: February 22, 2012 07:31PM I've read enough about the Flaming River boxes and owned enough original quick boxes to not feel like one equals the other. That's not to say that I think the FR are junk, or I would never buy one, but the factory boxes last forever if taken care of and about the best option you can ever put on a LM car. The new FR box with Clarks quick arms will have ackerman problems, just like with a stock slow box. I believe the FR box is meant to run with stock arms, I may be wrong here. As for the "overpriced junk", if you had a car that was equipped with it originally and it's missing and you're a show car guy, you need those part numbers. The junk part? Looks like well preserved parts to me. The bushings are rebuildable like a regular box and if the box was properly lubed thru it's life, the worm gear should be fine. Factory quick box with factory quick arms= just over 3 turns lock to lock with proper ackerman and victory at autocross ![]() Factory slow box and stock arms = you lose at the autocross ![]() It will be interesting to see what this setup brings. () Date: February 22, 2012 07:39PM Having driven Slow Box aftermarket QA Fac Quick Box w/ aftermarket QA Fac Quick Box w/ Fac QA. I'd have to say the Fac Quick Box and Fac Quick Arms is the best overall combo, provided you've got a little upper body strength for parking manouvers. The QB and aftermarket arms required two hands tugging at the wheel and it understeered/pushed something brutal on tight AX cornering. () Date: February 22, 2012 08:23PM $925 is my guess in this market. The $$$ is in the arms, not the box. Arms $600 Box $325 There are a lot more QSB's out there than arms anymore as so many people pulled the boxes and left the arms. I have two sets of short arms I removed from project cars but with my luck they will turn out to be aftermarket arms and not OEM. Where's that old photo of the different types of arms all tied together for comparison? ![]() Re: eBay QSB package f/s Posted by:

() Date: February 22, 2012 11:21PM the factory arms will have a gm p/n forged in them. the aftermarket arms have no gm p/n. -Scott V. Re: eBay QSB package f/s Posted by:

() Date: February 22, 2012 11:43PM WOW. worth a bit! In my convertible, I have a factory quick steering box, factory quick arms, and the 66 telescoping steering column with wood wheel. () Date: February 23, 2012 12:14AM Mike Harrison "offered" an NOS '66 QSB box with arms for 1200, 10 years ago. I don't think anyone took him up on it. I have a '66 box that came out of a race car, with maybe a few thousand on it. I wouldn't sell it - they just come up too infrequently in that good of shape. With 4 '66's with fast steering, it's nice to have a good spare. I did buy a rebuilt QSB with arms from Mike H for 650. I thought it was a fair market price back then, still happy with the purchase today. Mike YS-117 Re: eBay QSB package f/s Posted by:

() Date: February 23, 2012 12:15AM bob - that would be a good referance. is your nos box a 66 or 67-9 style? -Scott V. Re: eBay QSB package f/s Posted by:

() Date: February 23, 2012 02:02AM Scott, you WOULD ask that! I had to go find it and look. Appears to be the mid-65-66 style, p/n is 5696344. Re: eBay QSB package f/s Posted by:

() Date: February 25, 2012 11:26PM Thanks to all for ALOT of great info.!! Only vairs I drove were FC with stock steering, a '61 Monza with stock steering, 2 LM's with stock steering, my Yenko with QSB and arms. I had an original '68 Z/28 with manual fast ratio manual steering, back in the early '80's. I loved the way it drove and steered. I think the Yenko feels alot the same on the steering. You cannot tell me GM did not design the 1st. Gen. Z/28 steering from the Corvairs QSB option. Rick Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum. | ||||||||||||||||||
