As I recall, it was Fords own test crash films and where they put the filler neck. And it apparently did not require "NBC Dateline Model Rocket Engines" to ignite the fuelhot smiley Someone correct me if I'm wrong. BTW, it was Fords test drivers that provided the "action" in the film that Ford gave to Nader to use in court. Karma is a @#$%&. Otherwise, the Pinto was fine and the recipient of IECO upgrade parts!

I won't be watching. One of the producers of this show called us a while back looking to buy two early coupes for this show. He identified himself as one of the producers of the televison show and I distictly remember thinking they thought that by stating this we would be so excited and star-struck we'd bend over backwards to accomodate them. After asking the kid (he sounded like he was 20) what exactly he wanted a Corvair for it became apparent he was a truly an ignorant car guy and just another dingleberry looking to defame the Corvair. We blew him out.

Ay guys... history is full of revisionists and BS... The popular bull about the Corvair is just part of it's history. That will never go away. So I think... let the "Stooges" do their worst. I'm gonna watch the show tonight. It won't change my mind and I also think anyone really interested in unique collectables will have enough smarts to look throuth the nonsense. As far as the D-Durby at the end.... Just think of all the Chargers they wasted doing the Dukes! I love the 68 and 69 Charger. The best ones are still around.
So this show does not bother me.

I worked at Ford one summer as a student at the crash facility and was told by the old timers that they tested Pintos with live gas at night and all of them had issues. They cut them up into little pieces to remove the evidence. I was working at GM's crash facility when the rocket engine thing went down and it took GM legal all of about 24 hrs to find the truck Dateline used for their demonstration. They found the truck in a junk yard close to where they had filmed and staged the truck catching fire after a side impact. Not only did they find the truck, but the spent rocket engine in the BED!!! It was like something off the Darwin awards. They spilled the beans after that. They filled the tank on the truck with a can on site up into the filler neck, put the cap on loose, taped a model rocket engine to the filler pipe and had a guy ignite it at impact for the entire nation to see. You can actually see the guy lying in the weeds with the controller in slow motion when you know what you are looking for. The NBC CEO lost his job over that one and GM took the high road and did not press charges, but they should have.

Well said, Dave. I don't believe in the slightest bit that people are gonna watch this and decide against a Corvair, or sell the one they have. You'll never get rid of the bad publicity the Corvair has, so stop blaming that, the economy, TV, Nader, etc. for Corvair popularity and pricing being tanked. They're Corvairs.

As for the Pinto, here is some reading material:

I have never seen the British top gear and the American version only a couple of times. Sort of reminds me of the WWF of the automotive world . . . entertainment . . . but not necessarily good entertainment.

The idea of sitting down with a six-pack and pizza to watch the show makes it more appealing . . .

40 minutes to go and I'm gettin stupid. Passed on the Martinis in favor of some 14.2 A.b.V. homebrew Zinfandel. I should be good by showtime! Hic. Might could open another bottle if need be.

Put Faust in the Vair, Rutlidge is skeerd. Bigest problem with show is lack of consinsencty, not a fair representation of the brands. Thats Hollywood drama fer ya all.

Was Davemotohead involved in this production?
I noticed the driver of the Corvair was wearing green flannel! (At least at the beginning of the show).

Rutledge is "live" tweeting the podcast

I have never driven a car that would pick up a wheel like the Corvair did. They call it snap-oversteer when the car spins like that #TopGear

I replied:

@RutledgeWood What air pressure were you running in it?

So far, no response. If anyone else is on Twitter, maybe he'll stay on as it shows up across the time zones.
