What are they? I have a set of 7 inch wide 13" steel wheeels.

I had a set that were done by the original owner of my Stinger, they were done locally. The Yenko ones had a steel plate welded to the center section fo stiffen them up. I've only seen one set of originals, they were owned by Dave Stokoski years ago. Should have bought them when I had the chance.

13x7 wheels were used on the wagons as well. Don't think they were standard on other models.

Jeff - I have the originals that Dave Roethel purchased for 081. They basically have a flywheel welded to the inside. I have another pair of 13x8s that were made by someone post Yenko. The 13x8's with tires are lighter than the 13x7's with no tire! For anything other than a parked display, I'd just have a new set made by welding a band into an original steel wheel. I never mounted them up to check, but I think you'd need longer studs to mount the reinforced Yenko 13x7's. I thought I had a picture, but must be on the laptop at work.

I had a pair years ago but Curtis Wood ended up with them. As Mike stated, they are heavy, very heavy.

Wagons (if we are talking about Corvairs anyway) are earlys and have 4 bolt wheels where any Yenkos are lates and have 5 bolt wheels.

Jeff:

I have a full set of vintage 7" and a full set of 8" (FIA Documents allow 8") and a pair of 10". All are for sale. Particulars and photos on request. All are true and correct and were run as recently as last season in Vintage SOVREN.

First of all, thanks for all the leads, info, and suggestions!

Bob: I'm VERY interested in the 7" as well as possibly your set of 8" wheels! If you could send me details and maybe a pic or two, I'm at:

JJ51260@aol.com

Tom: If you have 7" in a five bolt (late) pattern please send me info as well.

Mike: I've heard about how heavy the widened wheels are... Definitely a concern. My intent is to bring the outside of the wheel/ tire closer to the inside edge of the wheel wells. I prefer to have the wheel wells "filled" in appearance. It would be nice to have "original Yenko's" but it is not my primary goal. Worst case is that I could have the 6" wheels I have simply welded and widened! Could you send me a pic as well? Thanks!

Again, this forum is an incredible resource and the best source for ANYTHING Corvair! Thanks to all for the info and help.

Not the greatest pix, but these are 13x8's. I think tire size is 245/50R13. That's the other concern - other than an A or R rated sticky tire, you're going to be pretty hard up for 13" tires.

Edit - stock front rims in those pix.

I've got 4 on my car. I tried real hard but my wife will not let me sell them. She was pissed when I wanted to sell my close-ratio Yenko gearbox to Curtis.

My wheelwells have a very "filled" in appearance with Yokohama 205x60x13 tires on them.

If I was weight concerned......I'd take one of mine to Stocton wheel, and have them make the same wheel without the "double center". This is how the originals were made, with a double center. And yes, you do need longer studs, which mine never had. With the wheel removed you can actually see the inner center, with the taper for the lugs, times 2 when you look at the outer also.

And there is a freebie piece of history from me. :-)

THe 7" doublecenter wheels were made in a small welding/ machine shop in Eighty-Four, Pa.( yes, where the lumber co. began as well ) The man also did the cut down fans for the Stingers.
