Vehicle ID? (Body Tag & VIN Don't Match)
Posted by: justinvair ()
Date: November 25, 2011 01:29AM

We have a VIN tag with 105675W195728 and a body tag 65-10767 WRN 6567

The car is indeed a 65 convertible and has Corsa dash and badging.

Any ideas here?

Thanks!

Your car is a 1965 Monza convertible.
It was the 95728th Corvair built at Willow Run that year according to the VIN tag. The body tag says Corsa. I dare say someone changed the body tag.

On the VIN tag what kind of rivits are there? Are they round or are they sort of "star" shaped? What about the body tag? What is holding it in place? There should be thin black ring hollow sort of locks.

People do this with cars all the time. How many GTO's do you really think there are?

10567 is a convert number but sorry it's not a corsa. A corsa would be 10767. And your right they don't match. Go under the car and look at the stamped number by the tank.

It's really simple and common to Corsa-ize Monza. Take a good look at the rivets used on the body tag to see if they look kosher.

The only other possibility is someone masking a shady Corsa by changing the VIN.

I'm not sure if the 65's had a hidden VIN stamped in the body. Maybe not, I know my '69 does.

Thanks a bunch guys.
Here's what's funny,......the Corsa body tag has the rosetta rivets but the VIN does not. Possibly stolen sometime back?

Does the Fischer Body Tag # have any bearing on the VIN tag # ?

He has the 6,567 Monza convertible body produced by Fischer in '65

He's safe that way without closer scrutiny...

As mentioned above, the Fisher Body ID plate is NOT from a Monza.
The code 65-10767 is for a Corsa convertible model.
The code 65-10567 is for a Monza convertible.
Without knowing more, it seems that someone swapped the Fisher Body ID plate onto this Monza convertible.
Good news is that the title for the car has nothing to do with that, as the only important numbers are for the V.I.N. attached correctly and confirmed by the hidden V.I.N.
The other tag would be better off missing from the car, it does not belong there.

since the subject has been brought up, on the early model is the number behind the suspension or just in front of it? I have undercoat all over the wheel well and don't desire to scrape it all off!

If similar to the LM's directly behind the upper A-arm...

Maybe the car has been sectioned sometime in it's life? Is there a secondary stamped number? We all know of the one by the tank but is there another stamped somewhere else?

Not to my knowledge...

it will be easy to tell if it is a sectioned body..

That is exactly what I questioned in my post and made mention of what was used to hold each on.

With what you have I would want to know just to know, but leave it at that. What numbers does the title have on it? Does it match the VIN on the car? The body tag NEVER had rivits.

Back to the original post by Justin in Oklahoma.

Oklahoma is the only state that I'm aware of that has made it unlawful to tamper with the "trim tag plate".

Oklahoma Law cite

The Fisher Body ID plate - aka "trim tag" is attached by large hallow center rivets at the factory:

Those holes are far too big to be able to have "rosette" rivets which have a much smaller head. Often these will have some sealer material on them.

Same exact size plate or tag as in the LOS Corsa photo above. This one is a Monza from Willow Run

This is the "rosette" head rivet on the V.I.N. plate which is much smaller than the other two. No way that rivet could attach the larger plate, the hole won't match.
