Clark's sells a disc brake conversion mount kit on page 148 of their catalog. $165 for the brackets, you supply the rest of the parts.

Joel bought some aftermarket dropped spindles that are set up for disc brakes and he modified them (lower ball joint taper) for FC use.

Clarks does not have a disc brake kit for FC. No Corvair vender has them. But have no fear Speedway is here.
Speedway has two versions, one for large body calipers and one for the smaller body metric caliper.
BUT you have to tell a little lie. Tell them you are converting your 1957 Chevy with stock spindles to disc brakes. Yup bolts right on. If you are able to to a little milling, you can even keep alloy 14 inch wheels.
If you want to buy the pieces locally, the rotors are 69 Chevelle rotors, the large body calipers are 69 Chevelle calipers the small metric calipers are Monte Carlo calipers. The brackets can be purchased separately from Speedway.

Did you even look at the Speedway conversion kit ? Master is in kit.

Front brakes are 69 Chevelle, rear brakes are just like 69 Chevelle, proportioning valve is 69 Chevelle. wonder what master cylinder would work ?
Hint hint, dont tell them you have a Corvair. Remember 1957 Chevy.

We just sold our last FC front disc kit and am uncertain whether we should sell one again. The problem with all the available "fixes" is that they cannot use stock Corvair van rims, despite the fact that the outfit that supplied us with our brackets claimed they would work with stock.

I had to buy the kit back once and sell it to someone who isn't using stock wheels. 100+ lbs back and forth is not my idea of a good time.

I had thought at one time of installing such a system on my 64 Greenbriar. Maybe it's time to do some engineering work again.

Joe Macmurchie's FC was able to fit discs on the front of his Rampside with stock wheels. He built his own setup, he's got mad skills.

I have 14 inch alloy wheels over my FC disc brakes. You are correct in saying the original steel wheels wont clear.
I tracked down the guy who made the disc brake brackets for Clarks and others. He was finished with that venture, and will never make any more,he gave the blueprints and prototypes to another guy. I tracked the next guy down and he was not capable of production at this time. That is when I realized the 57 chevy spindles are the same as the FC, ( except for ball joint taper.
The brackets are $99 from Speedway, they are gold cad plated and come with all new grade eight hardware.
I am positive Lon can build a great kit, but how does anyone beat $99 ?

Is THIS the Speedway kit to get or is it better to get THIS, the whole kit.

I don't see any reference to the require MC, though a disc/drum 1" would be where I would start. I would suggest skipping the "Chevelle" proportioning valve because of our rear weight bias vs. the Chevelle's front weight bias.

Next time I go through the brakes on my Greenbrier, I'm simply going to switch to Kevlar shoes. I thought about discs brakes but honestly, it's a lot of work to switch over. We've got the street Kevlar shoes on our Ultravan and they are marvelous compared to the organic shoes. No fade and work well when wet. Just about everything I think we'd gain with disc brakes without all the hassle.

MC was not included in my kit. PO had installed a duel mc which I assume was for drum/drum. I used it and couldn't be happier. Works great. Vast improvement over drums. Jerry

Nova 14" steel rally wheels clear the speedway kit and I can still use my 14" 3 prong spinner caps.I will never own a FC without front disc brakes after my install of this kit.Did it 3 years ago and still perfect.I believe I used a 1975 nova manual disc brake master cyl.
