As some of you know, a few weeks ago I decided to put my '61 Wagon up for sale. After a few weeks of no takers, and only spam email, I decided to offer it up for trade as well.

The reason for the trade is that last year we bought a 1 acre property in the mountains outside of Tehachapi, California. Over the last several months, I have found myself having to borrow a truck more and more often. I had planned on buying a 4x4 truck eventually, so I decided to offer the corvair up for trade.

To this date I have had two serious offers: a banged up 2000 GMC 1500, and a chevy 2500 diesel suburban. The GMC ended up not passing smog, so I passed on that vehicle, but the suburban is starting to look pretty nice. It can hold all five of my kids, and is a 4x4, and is quite the capable tow vehicle to boot. It's a '97, and I know GM had quite a bit of trouble with the injector pumps on them, but the guy offering it to me appears to have solved that problem.

how TRUE! i have freinds in the service industry (restaurants, bars, hotels) and home renovation field. they all say it's bog slow for them @ work, even those that have money to spend are hesitant to do so nowadays.

i am SO tempted to incur the wrath of "the keeper of the checkbook" (once again)!


i wonder how impossible it would be to add Air Conditioning to a wagon? i am guessing a front trunk mounted condensor would be the only way to make it work?

(i "gotsa" have A/C here in the Heat & Hunmidity sink hole of the country; AKA New Orleans, LA)

I think it would be just as hard to add AC to a wagon as it would be add it to a FC. There is no room for a condinsor in the engine compartment, and yes, you would have to put the condensor up front somewhere. That would be a lot of freon lines to install, but you could run them down through the tunnel fairly easily.

it's a "tough marker" out there in the Real World for collector cars, much less a "niche market" like our corvairs (but not to us, of course).

i'm gonna have to "likker up" my "keeper of the checkbook" this weekend and have a talk with her......

FWIW, GM ran the factory A/C lines in LM cars on the floor along the passenger
door sill and along the bottom of the car on the passenger side. No lines in the tunnel.
I added factory A/C to mine stripped from a doner, but I put the condenser
in the trunk. My A/C lines are mounted under the car as much as possible
like the factory installation.

Well I was hoping to take the wagon to the west coast tossed, but I was informed today that by my Wife that I will be helping my grand father in law move... Bummer.

well then...all that interior space of the wagon will come in handy!

it looks like there IS room in the engine compartment area for a newer, rotary style compressor and mount?
