Just curious what the fastest Corvair in the quarter mile. Also one that is still unibody and not some front engine frame thing.

I would think a 65, 66 140 Corsa (if your asking stock)

Most likely Billy Bruce's EM turbo PG... mid 12's..


Charlie Friend holds the speed record for a v8.... 207 on the highway...

We just had the Corvair Olympics ... a couple of Vair powered Vairs were in the low 15's IIRC

With your turbo'd sbc 366??? you might overcome the low ratio R & P in the transaxle....

That's like asking what model 'vette is the fastest, and then saying you plan to build a pro-stock car out of one. If you're not using the stock drivetrain, It'll be as fast as you make it.

Not really, C6 ZR1, easy answer. It's alot easier to find out what the fastest modified irs Corvette is compared to a Corvair. I haven't really heard of any Corvairs built for the strip, hence the question.

My build isnt the typical toro build. The transmission/engine is rotated 180° and I modified a 9" input bearing support along with a custom splined shaft to mate a 8.8 irs differential behind it with a short d-shaft. 8.8 is flipped and I'm going to use reverse cut gears from an 8.8 ifs differential to make sure It is lubricated properly. 3.31 R&P with a posi. The engine/trans assembly will be 100% in front of the rear axle for better weight distribution. Expect my build thread to be updated soon. I'm trying to use strong parts for this daily and track car. 8.8 stock are good into the tens with Cobras.

I'm thinking the stock and slightly modified (4 spider) transaxle limits the amount of tourque severely, 300 foot lbs require smooth footwork. Granted the moderately modified Vair won't reach this #. I destroyed one with a bone stock 307 test engine in CV-8 back in the 80"s.
IMHO and experience any kinds of hard launching will leave you clanking and cussing. Take your chances and launch em as hard as you like but there will be the sound of the doomsday clock going tick, tick, tick, tick boom!

Be happy to run in the 15's.
