What type of vacuum set-up should i use?
Posted by: Billdozer ()

'64 spyder with non turbo engine using the '63 style air cleaner set up. There is a road draft tube and i still need a balance tube for the carbs. There is also a hole in the fan shroud where the pcv system would poke through.

Is it possible/hard to convert to pcv system? or should i use another set up?

p.s. i know i still need to move the ignition coil

dont worry about the pcv system now. get all the missing engine tin put back on the engine - thats way more important.

leave the road draft tube & just put a plug in the top tin.

Bill, that is going to be a nice looking motor when you get it all done. It is not hard to add the PCV system you just need a few parts off 63 or 64 FC. There is already a nipple on the right side air cleaner to hook to when you get the other stuff. This is a picture of my old Greenbrier to give you an idea of what it will look like with all of the pieces. Call Jeff at California Corvairs and he should be able to get you all the stuff you need for a very reasonable price.

Do you have the rest of the shrouds you need to button up your motor?

I would put the PCV system in place for a couple reasons,,1st you have the hole for it both on the air cleaner and on the top shroud,,2nd road draft tubes will vent and get dirt all over them and your lower tin on the bottom of the motor and eventualy collect dirt,,the road tube wont realy be a problem if left as is,,but it would be realy easy to put the other parts in place at this point of your build and it will look more normal rather than pluging off the holes in your sheet metal and aircleaner,, JMHO thumbs up

I have all the shrouds they're just not on right now because the car isn't in driving order. So if I just remove the draft tube I'll be able to put the right fittings for the PCv system in its place?

You will need the RH air cleaner can "lid" with the fitting for the PCV hose. Sam's picture shows this. I have also seen the same fitting on the air-cleaner crossover, tho not as that common.
And Thank You to everyone for not calling it a PVC system!!! HA! That would melt!
