Is Your Corvair Your Favorite Of Your Old Cars?
Posted by: UGLYTRUK ()

I just enjoy my Corvairs so much, and the conventions, and Clark's, and the attitude of the other owners and vendors!

What's your experience with, let's say, your '41 Buick, or '66 Corvette, '32 Model A, or 383 Road Runner, or another of my favs, The AMX!

It all depends on the poeple I meet with each vehicle. To be honest, my wifes 50 Chevy draws the most attention. Last year at a car show, I couldn't believe it. The 50 has years of 'patina'. Original drivetrain. I was parked between two very nice 57 Chevys and the 50 was bringing more attention than the 57's.

My 84 Jeep CJ draws a certain group of people, the 50 another and the Corvair another.

I don't have a favorite, I want one of every car. smiling smiley

My Corvair is not my favorite car when the temps are in 100+ range. The heat index today will be in the one hundred teens. I miss Colorado's low humidity.

I only have 1 old car, my Vair.

But my dad has a 62 Caddilac Convertible thats Sweeeeet.

And is always the thing that makes me even more amazed / impressed with the corvair.

His Caddy was out 2 yrs before my vair but same time as the vair. Park them next to each other and you would not thing they were from the same era.

The vair is cool, seeing it next to cars of its era makes it even more interesting and unique (at least thats my opinion).

Which do I like better, both but for different reasons. It is amazing to me how easy we have it for getting the right parts, and how much work/ struggle my dad has finding parts for his Caddy and then often they still are not correct.

Easy, my BOSS 302. Having said that, each car excels at something: the 'vairs are easier to drive and get good mileage, the Corvette is just a massive sledgehammer of excess power, but the BOSS is like legal drugs that never wear off!grinning smiley

yeah it's my favorite, I've only got the one after all. Well, I've got the Rampy too but it's not a car and between it and the LM convertible, the car wins by a landslide. Trucky is better at haulin' crap though.

I don't play favorites with my old cars. If I did, they might get jealous of each other and start squabbling. Like kids, they're each special in their own way.

Yep, my favorite. Although with 22 degrees this morning the "heater delete" option makes it a little less favored. With 30 yesterday morning I opted for the 88 bmw with heat in the morning, the Vair in the afternoon (I expected the 50 mph crosswinds to have an effect, but none).

This morning was BMW again. Both cars sat in the pm as I spent it under the Renault pulling suspension and brakes.

Hmmmm?
Well my VW Thing is the "new cow in the pasture" right now.
I'm pretty done with what I'm going to do on The Corvair... just a few little things here-and-there, so I'm not as interested in it anymore. I still really think it's a great car and I'm so glad I can just jump in any time and take it for a spin.
I guess the "fix' it up" is my favorite part of the car hobby... maybe even more than driving (sick isn't it?).

I don't own one, but my dream car has always been a '65, '66, or '67 (the only years made) Sunbeam Tiger. When I was stationed in San Diego in '66 I test drove one and had to have it. Time went by and one thing after another.... I finally bought a '63 Alpine after getting out of the service. Alpine had a 4 cyl, Tiger was a beefed up Alpine with a Ford 289 and later a Chrysler ... can't remember CI ... V-8. When I bought my Vair, about 1 year ago, my first choice was the Tiger but I found them running $15,000 to $40,000 or more. At first I felt like I just "settled" but I'm finding I enjoy the Corvair and the people more and more each day.

I can't have 3 and not love them. Look forward to driving the RatVair at some point once he reaches some level of obnoxious operability.

I've got a 63 and a 67 vette, Camaros out the yin yang, and just bought a 67 Moredoor Monza. I noticed I like the corvair people better. I live close to Helen,GA, where there was a big corvair event. The people I met there are 1000 times better than the stuck up vette jerks at Carlisle and the such. I hope I enjoy my moredoor as much as I did my Lakewood.

Variety is cool!
I have 5 Corvairs, so spreading out the driving oftentimes is to whatever has gas in it.
AS for Favorites......hard to say.
My 66 Coronet Convertible with the 383 and 4-speed is the one I've had since 1973.
The 67 Coronet though drives smoother being an automatic.
For smooth driving, can't beat my 77 Mark V.
And I especially feel good with my 73 T-Bird because my Grandfather bought it new and gave it to me.
My 66 T-bird is in waiting........still not done yet.
But Judy just picked up a 64 Valiant, 4-door, slant 6 with a push button automatic. Car turns heads, but still have some bugs to work out.

Everyone loves the Greenbrier.
Faded paint and all.

The other Corvairs turn heads everywhere we go with them.

Variety is nice!

I love my Corvair -it's nice looking and fun to drive - but my ultimate dream car has always been a 1961 Chevrolet. I bought one two years ago and it's now my favorite. It's an Impala 4-door sedan with 283 and powerglide. In my eyes 1961 was the prettiest car Chevy ever made and they really are Jet Smooth. Also, there's a lot more room in the Impala for family and friends than there is in the Monza convertible.
