I missed posting this video of the bad flywheel I found. All the bolts on the bellhousing had washers on them.

I'm afraid that's what mine is gonna look like if I don't get to it soon. In neutral with the clutch out it makes faint rattling sound. Touch the clutch pedal and it goes away.

Can you explain why "all the bolts in the bellhousing had washers in them" is significant?

The outward most or lower bolts on the clutch-flywheel or bellhousing do not have flat washers behind them. This is to allow clearance between the housing bolt heads and the flywheel rivet heads when the flywheel flex's under severe conditions. The washers are not a problem in these positions with Powerglide equipped transmissions and the torque converter.
If a "flywheel" was repaired with hex head bolts.... this can be a severe clearance problem!!!

Can't you just make a new flywheel out of cardboard?

That's a really loose flywheel. Wasn't it destroying starter noses?

It always comes back to cardboard, poor guy.

It was in a car a friend Junked. I was thinking of Oak. It would last longer than cardboard. Now should I use flat or satin poly on it? Ideas?
