() Date: July 27, 2011 08:29PM Rear reflectors are correct for FC's with Deluxe Trim package - chrome bumpers, etc. Eric P. DeWitt, IA Re: FC Rear Reflectors Posted by:

() Date: July 27, 2011 09:19PM If you decide to add reflectors to your Rampside, be sure you know what you're getting. The few I've seen don't match the color of the tail lights. I've read that that the ones from Clark's don't match well. Re: FC Rear Reflectors Posted by:

When NEW they did not match the color of the taillights, and Clark's repros match every bit as well as the factory originals. I know this because I've had my deluxe Greenbrier since January of 1966 and I have several sets of NOS GM reflectors. Oh -- and they aren't really reflectors, anyway. They're trim. --Bob Marlow Re: FC Rear Reflectors Posted by:

() Date: July 27, 2011 10:10PM Are the reflectors(or trim) a brighter red than the tail lenses? Re: FC Rear Reflectors Posted by:

Here are two photos: One is my 1964 Greenbrier deluxe, photographed in January of 1966. Okay, the snow is a problem, but you can see the shade of the reflectors. The other photo is a CCF member holding an NOS reflector. --Bob Marlow Attachments: ![]() Re: FC Rear Reflectors Posted by:

() Date: July 28, 2011 11:45AM I have a set of NOS (still in the package) reflectors & I'm having a hard time deciding if I should drill the holes & put them on my all original low mileage 63 Rampside. I like the clean look without them, but also think the contour shape of the rear tailgate calls for them. What do ya think? Add them or leave them off? My Rampside is red with a white band & chrome bumpers. Re: FC Rear Reflectors Posted by:

() Date: July 28, 2011 11:47AM If you mean "all original" including what GM sprayed on it 50 years ago, then "no", I wouldn't even consider putting the reflectors on. It'll only ever be that kind of true all original once, don't mess with that. If you mean, "all original", as in restored back to original, then I'd consider it. () Date: July 28, 2011 11:57AM I'm pretty sure that the "reflectors" were installed on Deluxe Greenbriers only. My original 1963 Deluxe Rampside does NOT have them either. The Rampside model was part of Chevrolet's Truck division and considered a commercial vehicle. The Greenbrier was part of the Car division and was considered a station wagon. Would the look good on your Rampside? Sure! Install them with 3M HD adhesive trim tape. Candy Apple red transparent paint can be applied to these reflectors or to light lenses to darken them and give 'em a nice new glossy appearance. Yellow transparent paint can do the same for amber lenses, BTW. () Date: July 28, 2011 12:10PM I think that VHT or Duplicolor someone has "tail light lens" dye. I just saw promo for the stuff on one of the "car tech" shows. Forget which one. () Date: July 28, 2011 12:47PM From the 1963 Full line Chevrolet brochure, here's info on the DeLuxe Greenbrier model The equipment listed includes "red plastic inserts at tail-lights" Click on the pic above to go to the Picasa Web-Album. There is a magnifying glass icon above the picture there. Click on that and you can enlarge the photo to better read all the info. When enlarged, just hold the left mouse button down to move the pic. You can see them installed on this view. () Date: July 28, 2011 01:05PM This kinda falls into the official origional or origional dealer installed question. Think of late model Monza's with CORSA exhaust grille inserts. The dealers could mount anything back in the day, but does that make it un-origional? Yes and No. As Chevrolet intended delivered with only authorized accessories.. by the book... Monza's with exhaust inserts are not origional. Buttt then again!!! I think the same goes with the FC trim. For me if I had an super origional 95... not Delux... I would not install them. Buttt seeing my 64 Brier is a Delux, I have them there. Not only do I think they look good... but they also filled the screw holes left from the origionals!! Oh ya... I have installed a commercial reflective tape to mine so they are true reflectors. Corventure Dave Re: FC Rear Reflectors Posted by:

() Date: July 28, 2011 01:13PM If you do want to install them with the 3M trim tape, cut the ends off of the screws and glue them into the holes with some weather-strip adhesive. Leave a bit of the shank on the head, put the screw in the hole and fill around the shank with the adhesive. Let it dry for a day or so and they are there for good. () Date: July 28, 2011 06:39PM We sold a lot of these as close"repros" back in the 90's. Part of the problem is that it's now illegal to put reflectors on your car or van. Ours were painted with a non-reflective color but were very close to original otherwise. NOS "reflectors" are unbeleiveably cheap - quality wise. A season on your FC and they start to deteriorate. () Date: July 28, 2011 08:50PM This is from the 1962 GM Heritage Truck pages. Custom Chrome: includes front and rear bumpers and hub caps only Custom Equipment: has the "rear red inserts" 1962 lists the Custom Eqipment as 431. In the '61 Truck list there is no #431. #432 lists everything in 431 except the red inserts. #432 seems to be for all 1961 light duty pickup trucks. The 1963 Truck list now lists Custom Equipment as Z60. I did look in the 1963 Corvair Options for Greenbrier and I could not find red inserts listed. That is as far as I could see and as far as I looked. Chrome bumpers doesn't include the inserts, at least for 61-63 R1254 or R1244. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/28/2011 08:54PM by Richard. () Date: July 28, 2011 11:09PM I'd like to see functioning taillights there instead of just reflectors. Has anyone done this on their rampy or greenbrier? Kevin Medina, OH Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum. |
