Did anyone get a shot of the rear? Interior was basically stock looking...but I'll bet they changed lights on the rear as well....

So Matt is looking for a little "Whale Tail" photo . . . your wish is granted, photo attached.

The present owner said the modifications were made by the previous owner when the Ultra was in California. It has also been converted to a 4-speed.

The taillights I like. The headlights I could do without...

The four speed was on it when Don Reed bought it in 1986 - it had been used for towing race cars to the track. The records aren't clear who exactly did that, but the first and 4th owners were in CA so it may have been done there.

The body work was done in 2000-2001 by Don's son Delbert in Tucson. The headlights are '96 F-150, the taillights are '00 Chrysler Concord. The curvature of the front of the coach (below the windshield) was modified to better fair in the headlights.

The four speed makes it one of a very few. Many of you know I own Ultra Van #227 which also has a four speed and a 3.55 positraction differential. I think it's a huge improvement in driveability over the Powerglide. My coach will cruise easily at 70 mph with the engine spinning at about 3,000 RPM. Hill climbing is way more manageable too.

There are seven known four speed Corvair Ultra Vans: #227, #275, #331, #334, #346, #382, & #404. Also, I heard #466 was being converted, but I haven't heard yet if it was completed.

That's out of a total of 319 Corvair/Powerglide Ultra Vans built.
