i believe this has shown up a few times before. I haven't seen any pics of the interior though. Camper can definitely use some work.

If you thought they could not get any slower or less aerodynamic, thats your ride!

Neat concept and totally fixed up you would have a very unique camper. Gonna need lots of time and money though.

Ditch the camper and get a very clean rampy?

I was thinking the same thing too Ed. It's probably pretty low miles, it would just depend on how/where it was stored outside.

That camper would turn 99% of the buyers off. A sawzall and a sledge hammer and you could have it reduced to matchsticks in a few hours.

Many years ago, I bought a pickup camper.
Pulled the camper off, and it was a "openside".
Took me a year to find a ramp for it.
Good ramps are very scarce.........

I like the one in AZ that a guy had made or even made it him self.

Looks good on the Rampside and seem to be lighter than most.

I really think it would be a neat camper all fixed up! You would be almost guranteed to have the only one at the Corvair shows! Just give yourself plenty of time to get to them. With those aerodynamics your not going to go much faster then 60 downhill!

What work would be required to angle the front edge on top, and make the side edges curvy? That would help somewhat with aerodynamics. Maybe even build an aluminum insert that would rest in the drip rails and go between the camper and roof to prevent trapped air between them.

Hey all--I just looked at the pictures of this rig on eBay. I'm not convinced that this is a Rampside. The reason I say that is that in the one picture of the ramp area, there is no "indented" area behind the cab, where the body of a Rampside has a setback, to accommodate the thickness of the ramp door. Do you know what I mean? It's hard to describe.

Instead, what I see in the picture is a completely smooth and even mating surface between the truck body and the side of the camper.

Unfortunately, one can't tell from the VIN whether a truck is a Rampside or a Loadside -- both begin with xR124y. One would think that no one would ever cut up a Loadside to install a camper but I have learned about just such a case recently (not this rig).

What do you-all think?

Thanks.

I dunno Kent, the rear pillar of the cab seems to have the proper narrowing taper as it rises towards the roof, doubtful something someone hacking up a CV/GB would replicate. I think it probably started life as a PU.

Yes--I am not arguing that it started as a pickup. No question it's not a Greenbrier or Corvan. What I am asking is Rampside vs. Loadside...

Personally i would love to have it "as is". I would definatly keep the camper, but modernize it a bit.

For the record, if someone is going to check it out.

The difference between a Loadside and a Rampside is a 1/4" steel plate about 12" wide and running the length of the rampdoor opening on the underside of the bed. Loadside's didn't need it, and Rampside's did.

Not so sure how rare a cut Loadside is . . . Maybe putting a camper in one would be one of the few ways to make the bed somewhat useful.

Attached is a photo of the cut one in my parts car collection, plus about a year ago I welded the panel back in a cut Loadside for another Clubmember, good news was that they saved the cutout panel the bad news was whatever they used to cut it out left a 1/4" kerf.

Anyone check on the FC in the ad yet?

Terry, very interesting. Were either of those two Loadsides from 1962?
