BUYER BEWARE!

Nice looking EM. You got to wonder how much bondo the dealer hid under the 1 gal of clear??? smoking smiley Maybe it took that much to make it smooth? Check out history of the car, Who was the PO? Who did the paint work? Why is it on a "used car lot"? Hummm Just wondering?

Should your trusty saleman not know any of the above, I would not consider purchase.

Sorry, but I have NEVER trusted a used car salesman. If the car actually checks out, then the only issue would be price. Seems a bit high? Other than that, I like the car". Good luck shopping.

Dealers always ask for more money than private sales, that's how they make money. A local dealer's owner buys corvairs then gets them rebuilt/restored at the local corvair shop. Prices them high but they aren't waitig for a typical cheapskate Corvair hoarder to come buy it. They don't care if it sits on the lot for a while, the value only goes up.

Hey people.... I've been very up close to that car...(as I was looking for details for my wagon. That paint/clear-coat is immaculate....interior is quite flawless too....
I don't know how the dealership got the car, but in speaking to the salesman, seems like in was an in-house restoration. All the details quite perfecto'.... as is chrome....

Looks even better in person....
No kidding.

I like early 4-doors better than coupes. So do some other people. There are plenty of less worthy cars of the same vintage that sell for this much or more.
I wouldn't pay that much for that car, but then I'm a cheapskate. This one has been for sale for a long time. Sitting on a car lot for a long time takes its toll. I hope it finds a good home...

I think I recall one of the owners telling me the engine/tranny were compltetely rebuilt. With all the conversations here about the cost and effort required to even paint a car these days....I can tell you, ANYONE would be proud to achieve a paint quality of this sort.....and considering the overall condition of the car in general, I don't think a rust-bucket was used as the core of this resto....
I kind of like watching TV shows like "Overhaulin", "Wrecks to Riches", and the "Car CZAR", ; but sometimes I'm absolutely horrified at the amounts of body filler they use on their resto.....I'm of a school where you either sub-hire an excellent metal-man ,OR, you replace the panel/door, (etc.), entirely with a fresh rust-free/solid replacement.
I will say THIS though.....This car needs nothing as far as I can see...but I might stop by for a listen and test drive. The car dealer is located at the base of a bridge with 2 lanes in one direction....it's hard to see it, but the dealership has been there forever and they don't have a "junky" lot. This car deserves a good home eventually....
Thanks to elkybob for the post...
If I were a rich man, I'd buy it and ship it down to richard1 as a twin for his beautiful 4-door....
It's one of the nicest 4 doors I've ever seen...

Matt-

I thought to myself-- this car is going to need very little body/interior work. Except for the dent that was put in it while it was in MY hands GGG.

And that's where the big money would have come into play for me. So I was happy to get a rust free Texas vechile. Truly a brand new car or a 50 year old car will need something at somepoint Still have to maintain the sucker. I can't tell you how many times my friends have to take their new cars in for "warranty work" shorty after they buy it.

I know I paid more than I probably needed to for my car. But I bought alot of car for the money I spent. And to most here the stuff I fret over is minor at best. But I had no expectation that this was simply going to be a turn key car.

I've LEARNED so much in the short time that I've had it. I'm relaxing a bit now thanks to some very helpful memebers here on the forum.

BRAVO MONZAGAL!!! Like your attitude.....!!!
If you remember in the USAF all the aircraft that were cobbed together thru cannibilization, then methinks most corvairs have had their share of parts swap-outs....No matter how old/new the machine, it's great to periodically pull a vehicle in a shop situation, very similiar to the IRAN and ISO Docks we had for our C-141's.....
Too bad Matt did'nt live near Centralia and saw the excellent paint on that car....
I for one, would like to shake the hand of the guy who painted it.

MG... glad you had / have that attitude!!! Why I never pay alot for anything...

Currently working on a $1200 Toyota MH.... you name it and it didn't work...

$54 in parts so far and it's usable except for hot water.

Another $220 and it will be like all the $4500 units that sell.. it's all Fiberglass...

Admittedly...It even snookered me....I thought I stole it...only has 75k miles...

By 2 pm the next day I was wondering.......

You did good monzagal. For my car I did my research and I'm glad I paid more for something rust- and worry-free. If people like saving money on unknown history cars that'll drop a seat in 2 months or needs floorpans plus another 3 grand in bodywork, and have all the spare time in the world to fix what will break, that's their choice. Just don't assume every car out there is worth what you paid for your rust bucket. That 4-door listed for $5200 is a good buy if it's as good as it's described. The price is there because it keeps the lowballers with 20 rusted Corvairs in their backyard away. Whoever buys that for that price or close to it is taking it to a good home.
