Corsa dash aftermarket gauges.
Posted by: Jim66 ()

I'm doing research on finding an electronic speedometer for a Corsa dash cluster.
It seems easy to find 3 3/8" or 5", but I can't seem to find the necessary 4" size. Ideally I'd like to find a 160mph (It's a Corv8winking smiley) electronic with backlighting but might settle for a mechanical.
I've seen pictures in the past of Corvairs with AutoMeter white face gauges, so they were available in the past, but the current website only lists Cobra mechanical replicas in 4"...and those are period correct but BACKWARDS.
Anyone out there with information?

Jim,
Hi. Do a search by author, my name and you'll see my after market Corsa dash setup. FYI- I could've gone with the electric 160 MPH speedo but with a warmed over 140 it didn't seem legit.
Lots of examples with the search function. Happy viewing!

Flyer,

Beautiful work, and not just the dash! The pictures are a great help,
I'll order a set of adaptors from Seth. It looks like I made an incorrect assumption on the gauge size, good thing I haven't ordered any yet!
I'm also glad I searched your name because youv'e already done many of the things I'll be facing as I do my Vair. Good info. thumbs up
Thanks,
Jim

Jim, where did you get those gauges or are some factory and some aftermarket? I have been looking for VDO gauges, and I can't seem to find a cylinder head temp gauge that goes to 600 deg so I can put together a good matching set.

try www.egauges.com.

VDO makes a 600 degree CHT but it is not in the cockpit series but matches up very well with it.

Jimster,
Is that a 90 mph speedo? I didn't know that even existed. I dialed back from the 140 in the Corsa to a 120 electric; not like I'll get close to either one of those numbers.

Big Bird Flyer
Yeah, it's an 85MPH electronic speedo in the 3 3\8" series. It fits perfectly in the Corsa dash. I didn't want a speedo that went to supersonic speeds either, but discovered that since i changed to 3:08 gears i can go way off the end of the scale.

Jim,
Yea I've got a 3:08 posi setup going into my Corsa as well. I hear that they like to run, especially with the early gearbox I selected. I'll be very curious how much of my new 120 speedo gets used!

What yer gonna love about the 3:08's is jamming it into third gear at highway speeds and nailing it. Whoever was in front of you is now behind you. You'll get good boost in a heartbeat and off ya go.

Jim,
Thanks for encouraging words! No boost however as mine is a 140, but the secondaries opening will put a smile on my face for sure!
Here in Qatar, gas is going for the US price of .84/gal for SUPER, Supreme is .80/gal after all the converting is done. Gas prices like these are the only way I'd ever own one of the Ford Explorer type vehicles that they've provided for us.

Due to popular request, some pictures to show how I did it, I basically cut up the stock brackets and made a few of my own from some tin. Not rocket science, just take your time and make them fit nice. I think 2 1/16" fit just behind the stock holes, while a 3 3/8" gauge fits right inside the large stock holes.

Matt,
The three grades offered when I left two weeks ago are 93/95/97 but not sure if it's calculated by the RON method.
Lots of American iron running around over there as well as all the European exotics. They all like the fuels. Never heard any pinging from my vehicles and or friends either.
Prices were .85/.95 and 1.00 per gallon after all the metric conversions and monetary exchanges were factored in. Gonna miss that aspect for sure!

This is what I am currently installing [www.speedhut.com] in my V8 with Seth's mounts, so far I am happy with 2 1/16 and 3 3/8 sizes and the speedo is GPS so no need for adaptor boxes or sensors. The revolution series has programable warning lights in all gages and you pick the style of numbers, pointer, color etc. I will post photos when I am done.
