Vette to Vair,

Thanks for the compliment! Several people have said I should take orders for them, as well. I work two jobs & am stressed enough as it is . . . .making these would make a 3rd job & add more stress, though I won't eliminate the possibility. Those interested for more info, questions, or measurements to make your own, send me a PM - I'd be happy to share. Thanks!

The photo of the late model console is in a '66 that has Clarks repro seat covers. The vinyl match is pretty darn close. I'm pretty picky and it looks great to me. The colors available and all look very close to original GM vinyl colors. I'll have the early consoles in stock as of November 13, 2009. I'll test fit the early unit on a PG and stick and report back on the details with photos. Mention the Corvair Center and get that $124.95 special price!

Here is another approach to a console that I finished up today. I have several cars and don't like cutting holes for speakers and doing a lot of modifications to fit radios. The plan was to build a unit containing radio and speakers I could transfer from car to car.
So basically I built a box that would hold two rectangular speakers and the radio and fit between the seats on a LM . . . it will also sit in front of the seats on a EM. Antenna is routed to between the seats and power is wired up with a flat four prong trailer plug. Some photos attached.

I'm gonna have to pull out my ruler, but I don't think I have more than 3" max at any point between the buckets on my EM.

Heck, they are close enough that I can just jam my travel mug between them to hold it! ggg

We just received our shipment of early model Classic Consoles from the manufacturer today. Here's a photo of the console designed for 1960-64 Corvairs with automatic transmissions. The cost is $89.95 plus shipping. We have black and red in stock but can get the other colors as well. The second photo shows one installed into an early Corvair. There are two straps that go around the edge of each seat to hold it in place.

All this talk of consoles finally sparked me to mock one up out of cardboard. I put in a spot in the front for "junk" I am always carrying (cell phone, house keys, etc.). Wifey wants it hinged in the back so "both of us can get into the storage area". Not sure that will work, but we'll see I guess.

Will see if it fits in the car tomorrow. Raing cats and dogs here now.

It's still in process -- I'm working on the audio system right now. I bought some extra matching vinyl with my HumpHugger and will render the vertical console in plywood and upholstery to match the HumpHugger.

I almost never come to this forum anymore and now frequent www.corvairforum.com.

I'll post over there whene I get it finished.

Your center console mockup looks exactly like the one I made for my 67 Beetle.
I made mine out of fiber board and covered with thick black leather grain naugahyde.
It was just for the stereo, no other compartments. Also made a matching speaker deck for the back storage area using 1/4" plywood and the same naugahyde.

Guess it's about time to start one for my 68 Corvair!
