Jeff,

EM and LM consoles are different, correct? How about a picture of the early console?

I am also very interested to see if the later style bucket seat one will "fit" between th eseats of an EM convertible.

I spoke with the compnay and they said you need 5.5 inches but I wasn't sure where to measure....

They suggested the "bench" style and have it straddle the opening...but I want the other style...

Rick,

That's what I was thinking. Doesn't look like that floor mounted model between the seats above will fit between my EM seats. And, if it did I don't think you could reach in and get the drink because the space between the front of the seats is to small.

I bought mine from a company called "Blue Thunder" which appears to be a distributor for Classic Consoles. Both are in Cairo, GA. The Classic Consoles website doesn't list a Corvair application and the Blue Thunder site is under construction. Also, Blue Thunder sent me a sheet with 38 color options.

So, who's on first?

$129.00 plus shipping. I also bought a yard of the same color vinyl for the under-dash console I'm building.

We will have early model consoles available (w/photos) by next week. The earlies are the "BC Cruisers" and the lates are the "Humphuggers".
We are the west coast distributors for Classic Consoles and Blue Thunder are the east coast distributors.

I ordered a console from Blue Thunder on Tuesday. Ordered direct by phone and was told that console would be built and shipped in a few days. Price is 129.00
My impression of e-mails and conversations with Rusty and Randy is that they are the builders, not distributors for some other company. (Unless that company is also owned by them)

I had no idea those were available . . .ironically, after putting it off for a few years,I made my own from scratch earlier this summer. I did my best to design it as if it would have been an available option when Corvairs were brand-new & look like it belongs there.

Nice job! Please, we need to know how you built it (fiberglass?) and where you got the cup holders.

Jeff,

Is the console for the early supposed to fit on the seat or the floor. I believe the seat mount early models are incompatable with a manual transmission.

Thanks,
Ed

Thanks guys! It's constructed of 3/16" birch plywood riveted to a flat aluminum ring at the top & nailed to the base, made from 3/4" plywood. Thin slats of the thin plywood created the curves, then wood glue & body filler blent it all together. It's wide at the base, and narrows toward the top. We wanted the finish to imitate that of the crinkle paint on the dash panels, so we used black automotive laquer sprayed through an HVLP gun with the largest nozzle and at a low pressure; making the paint shoot out like cotton-candy. The cup holders are actually pencil/pen holders from Staples office supply store. I used them because of their 3" i.d., brushed metal finish, and the brim almost exactly replcates the guage rings on the instrument cluster. The lid is also birch plywood, with a section of imitation leather from a Corvette seat cover, and is held & centered in place with small rectangular magnets at each end. The inside & bottom of the lid is finished with "fuzzy" ozite fabric. The whole console is held down by nuts threaded to 1/4" studs welded to the floor. Here are a few pics:

That looks great, I like it better then the "Humphuggers" model. I like the round look, and looks a little larger. Also, for the shifter, it looks more custom, like it was factory made for it. the emblem on top - tops it off perfectly.

You should take orders for your console.

Great job.
