Clutch adjustment ?

I'm re-attaching the clutch cable. Before, clutch pedal was higher than brake pedal and there was about 3/4 to 1" of play in pedal so will probably be there now. Left old cable in car - was able to inspect entire cable and it looks good. Can't recall, but I think it engages about 2" from floor. I understand manual directions for adjusting cable and clutch: adjust cable until arm on clutch bracket is 3/8 to 5/8 (IIRC) from cross member, then turn swivel on clutch rod until it engages.

Questions: assuming this is the original clutch with 68K and is normally worn, where does that wear show up in the operation? Does a worn clutch cause the pedal to not engage until more than 2"?

Adjusting the length of the rod at the pedal only adjusts free play, correct?

As the clutch wears, the point where starts to "connect" is higher and higher off the floor. At the very end, the clutch doesn't grab until the pedal is almost all the way "up".
