Having never owned a LM Vair I was impressed with thier use of aluminum to make the distribution box. I expected to see a rusted mess. Even the rubber on the flaps was still soft, GM did good

No lube fittings on the motor/bearings - if noisy, replace only.

Thanks, Steve.

I assume the Corvair blower is a a squirrel-cage fan with bronze bushings as is typical with this type of fan. It it is, it can be lubricated.

I've had this type of fan work its way to one side or the other, resulting in the fan rubbing against the blower housing. It's not unusual for the blower shaft to be positioned using friction fasteners (not sure what these are called) that just slide onto each end of the shaft. I was going to check for this condition.

I've drilled them out and lubed them before but they don't last long and they are a pain to remove so now I just replace them. Also replace the fan with a plastic one from the salvage. A new blower motor is only $15 at AutoZone. Either 80 Monte Carlo or Caprice.

Shameless plug for my site.. Jerry's World of Toys. Restoration information and more.
