OT: Coulda been great with a Corvair drive train

Old timers like me might remember when GM sold products from European subsidiaries in American showrooms, for example, English Vauxhalls in Pontiac dealers, much like Buick sold German Opels, though the first pairing didn't last as long.

The April issue of English magazine CLASSICS had a story about Wayne Cherry (contributor to styling of the first generation Camaro/Firebird and Toronado) and two of the Vauxhall show cars credited to Wayne after he'd been transferred to the U.K. To my eyes, the SRV would have been an excellent candidate for a Corvair power train. Tell me what you think!

I would agree.
That car would have been a great candidate for Corvair power.
I have to sat though, once you look at the interior, in becomes a totally impractical car, for anything other than Track-Day, or car shows.
Can you imagine climbing in and out of that thing on a daily basis?
As for the designer, I get the impression he didn't have much influence on the great looks of the Camaro, if the extensive list on wikipedia is any reflection of his taste.
The list of vehicles he is credited with working on, are some of the ugliest things ever put on the road.

That giant instrument pod looks like it would be in the way with the door closed. I like the front end but not the wheels or rear.

The first article says something along the lines of, "eh, most concept cars could never run under their own power, anyway."

Not so with the Monza concepts!

It also says the engine on the Vax wouldn't run. A great reason to go Corvair.

I'm trying to figure out why you would want the instrument cluster to swing out with the door?

Novelty.
It was just a "Concept Car", after all.

I think some designers do things just because they can. No good reason.
