Case Assembly

So, ready to assemble the case.

Clearances look good to me: .003 at the camshaft journals and between .0015 and .002 at the crankshaft.

For the cam and crankshaft journals I have Permatex "Ultra Slick" engine lube assembly, #81950. I assume that it needn't be applied between the bearings and the case.

To seal the corners I have Permatex "2 Form-A Gasket" non-hardening sealant, #80016.

For the cam lobes I have Isky "Rev-Lube" with Moly Sulfide.

If anyone has any comments or suggestions I am open. Never been here, don't want to mess it up.

Thanks guys,
Lee

Sounds good except you don't put anything between the bearing shells and the case; that goes together dry.

The Ultra Slick engine assembly lube or the Rev-lube are both assembly lubes.
Put a thin film of assembly lube on the bearing surfaces that touch the crankshaft and the cam lobes. Eventually you'll also do the rocker arm contact surfaces in assembly lube too. I would read their labels and figure out which one sounds better. Moly is a good thing for cam lobes.

Thanks for the input.

So, if the Rev-Lube is better for the cam lobes it's bound to be better for the journals? Seems that the circulating oil would quickly flush out whatever is used for the initial assembly.

Is the molybdenum sulfide a "void-filler" or lubricant? I have often seen its presence required.

Thanks again, Lee

Moly is a high-pressure lubricant

Both assembly lube and the Rev-Lube are for initial turning and maybe starting only. Yes, they get washed out fairly quickly. Although the Moly stays in the oil and circulates so that is not all bad. When you drain the oil though it will look like there is a lot of metal in the oil, LOL, in reality you do! The Moly is a sort of metal.
