() Date: May 18, 2023 05:48PM As part of the window refurbishment, 5 of the 6 quarter windows rollers do not roll easily. I have been soaking them in penetrant and have managed to break them free enough to where they can be turned using my fingers using a LOT of force which means that they will not easily roll on their own when installed in the car. Contacted Clarks regarding replacements and received the following reply:
Although California Corvairs sells used roller assemblies, I much prefer to install new rollers given the power windows that will be used. Therefore, does anyone happen to have any new rollers that they would be willing to sell? OR, can someone tell me the secret to freeing up stuck rollers?? Thanks vairy much in advance! ![]() ![]() Dean F. () Date: May 18, 2023 07:24PM After more research and speaking with a venerable Corvair mechanic, it appears that I am mistaken. Apparently, those rollers are designed to pivot and slide inside the tracks but not necessarily roll. Therefore, please disregard my original post above. Dean F. () Date: May 19, 2023 06:37PM THey are called rollers for a reason. Mine roll and everyone I have ever seen roll when properly cleaned and lubricated. Re: Quarter Window Rollers - Need Help ![]() Posted by:

() Date: May 19, 2023 07:43PM Just for the heck of it, I popped the rollers off of the studs one at a time using a paint can opener then cleaned and lubricated them. After popping them back on, they roll freely. Obviously, if the rollers are bound up, they will still allow the window to operate because they will slide inside the channels with the grease but, clearly, they are designed to roll freely. ![]() Dean F. () Date: May 20, 2023 07:17AM Sure they will slide but they will eventually develop flat spots and then will need to e replaced. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Woodstock CT... () Date: May 28, 2023 05:08PM I am updating this thread with information that might help those who need to replace the quarter window rollers without need or desire to remove the complete roller assembly from the glass. After a LOT of research, I found an aftermarket replacement roller that should be a suitable replacement for the Corvair roller. This assumes that the new nylon roller MUST be removed from the new ball stud because the new ball stud is incompatible with the Corvair assembly. SS396.com sells rollers for a 64 Chevelle that are slightly larger but should work properly. I did run a new roller through the window tracks by hand and occasionally felt only slight resistance which should be OK as long as the tracks are properly greased. This is great news considering that Clarks is out of stock on their rollers with a 2-3 year ETA, assuming they succeed in getting one of their vendors to make them. See the measurement photos below. noting that the "new" Chevelle part photo is first, followed by the corresponding "old" Corvair part photo. BTW: These new Chevelle rollers do roll freely on the ball stud. BUT, please let's not get bogged down in a debate of rolling vs sliding because that is not the purpose of this update. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dean F. () Date: May 29, 2023 08:48AM Notice the bag calls it a ROLLER! There are some windows that use a square called a slider. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum. |
