Delrin has self lubricating properties but we do recommend some wheel bearing grease on the ball part of the Delrin and the cup part of the gold cup washers to help them break in. They should run quiet after break in without any re-lubing.

The adjustment should be so there is no play and the pivot moves freely. A little pre-load is good, too much and it'll bind the pivot.

On the Mustangs and Falcons, they don't add road noise, they add road feel through the steering wheel. We can feel what the car is doing better with the Delrin strut rod pivot, especially under braking. I haven't had anyone complain about it. The racers like it a lot. More driver feedback = happier driver.

Thanks Opentracker for the response on your bushings, very helpful.

I just ordered a set, looking forward to using this product. Will you be offering other Delrin bushings for the late model Corvair? I'm interested since I will be rebuilding my front suspension next month.

These strut rod bushings are all we have at the moment in Delrin. I can get the stock replacement bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends etc. for the Corvairs.

We would have to do the enginering, fitting and testing if we wanted to make anything else out of Delrin. The cost can be quite high sometimes. I have to balance the cost of production with the amount of interest in the market. These strut rod bushings were a challenge but I didn't have to start from scratch. This Corvair Delrin strut rod set up is a combination of Ford and Mopar pieces that just happen to fit the Corvair and early Nova. Again, if 66midmonster hadn't asked and given his time to test them, they wouldn't be a thing.

Quite a few of our product are a from folks asking "could it be done".

What would be the next piece we would like to see made from Delrin?

I would like to see a monoball replacement for the lower control arm bushing. Clark's has a nylon replacement bushing but it causes binding and they will be gone when sold out because the supplier died. The anti-sway bar bushings would be great to have also. Clark's used to have nylon but they are sold out.

The lower control arm might not be to hard. I found a photo of a lower arm and they have the same type of bushing as the early Nova. We have a spherical bearing kit for those already.

What size bolt holds the arm to the car, is it 1/2" or 9/16"? I need that, the OD of the bushing and the total width of the bushing.

The hole in the arm will most likely need to be enlarged for a weld in sleeve. The photo I'm looking at has a pretty thin bushing.

For the sway bar, did they make a Nylon piece for the frame bushings or the end links, or both? Any photos?

This is the kit I use for the AMC cars. it's a modified version of the ones we use on the Mustangs. Something like this would work with the right dimensions.

The kit

The AMC arm

Our Nova camber kit might fit the Corvair. What is the OD of the eccentric used on these cars?

Been doing some homework. The 60-64 Corvair has one size front LCA bushing and the 65-69 has another. They both look to be about the same length and use a 1/2" bolt. The OD is smaller on the 60-64 car.

The 69 AMC Javelin upper arm has a similar size bushing and we have a roller kit for those. It's possible, the AMC upper arm bearing kit we have will work on the lower arm of the Corvair. The hole in the Corvair lower arm would need to be enlarged a bit for the weld in sleeve.

Can someone please verify the lower arm bolt is 1/2" and the opening in the car for the lower arm is 2"?

Neither of our camber kits will work. The Corvair eccentric is smaller than the Nova or either of the Mustangs. I could have some made up but we would need a bulk order on that as the pricing gets out of hand when we order just a few of something.

It may be a few days before I can get the info.
The EMs don't have a cam. They use shims on the upper control arm like a lot of other GM cars.
The Clark's bar bushings were for everything but the very ends which require a lot of flex so they would have to be a ball.

Just called John this afternoon because II'm concerned about early wearing in the Clarks bushings. (I bought leaf spring shackles from opentracker for my Cougar) thinking I would just gather knowledge and what a surprise to see Corvair listed on the website. John has great service and called me back and told me about this thread. My goals are long life first and improved performance second. I'll study/think for a day or two then decide. Price seems fair!

With all this talk of monoball suspension I thought I'd add my 2 cents and also offer up a full set for a late model. I modify stock suspension parts to use johnny joints which have a steel ball in a urethane shell. You do not want to use steel on steel monoballs on a street car. Here are pics of the suspension parts ready to go, fully rebuilt and powder coated. I also have a new set of pmt lower rear struts to complete the set. Using all the pieces take all of the bind out of a corvair suspension for ultimate handling. It really makes a big difference in control but also keeps the ride very smooth. Of course abrupt bumps will be more harsh than rubber bushings but it is not extreme or uncomfortable. The brake reaction rods bolt into the front crossmember. You must drill 3 holes on each side and some minor fitting may be required. They are also repositioned to compensate for cars that are lowered 2-3 inches. I only use rare parts brand ball joints for lower control arms which are the only ones I know of made in the U.S. these days. Very high quality and the boots don't tear in short order like the ones you get from Clark's. Lastly, the johnny joints are greasesble, do not squeak, and can be rebuilt with new urethane shells.

Nice work Nate, I’m assuming you sell these with a core charge?

Yes, the core is $50 per pair of parts. And no core for rear lower strut rods.

Do the Johnny Joints have seals?

They do not have seals but are sealed by nature as the urethane gets compressed around the ball on installation. I figure if they're good enough for offroad vehicles which are the original intended purpose, they're good enough for corvairs!
