Windshield wiper refills?
Posted by: joelsplace ()
Date: May 04, 2023 01:14PM

Last time I bought any I had tons to choose from on RockAuto for something like $2 each. Now there is only a "Classic" at $42/pair. Is there anywhere to get regular wiper refills?

Joel,
Try eBay and search Anco wiper refills. Al sent me a link here on the forum back in January 2021. Back then they were about $7 each when purchased as a group of 6. They fit the stock housing perfectly smiling smiley

I have given up on refills. NAPA sells a classic frame and rubber assembly for $10-15 each. Not bad considering inflation.

Still out there. As long as your frame is good, these work well. About $10 each now.

my frames were missing when I got my car, so I got the ones from napa and they look great.

I understand there are some refills out there that are cut to fit length, I have some old frames in storage that I am going to try with the refills

Been a few years, but I could not find just the refills in the SF Bay Area.

For Anco, I had to buy Anco 31-15; remove the blade and throw away the plastic holder.

Keeping the the original stock metal holders on the Corvair...

I tried removing the blade on some but it was too narrow.
As far as getting the blade assembly mine have a bump instead of a hole so nothing seems to fit.

Like I said, it has been a few years since I have bought any - still have a couple sets, I think.

But, you are right, it appears that they are saving a little money on material (another vehicle).

Okay, probably a dumb question, but I haven't actually even given my wipers a second thought for years.

I should probably get some new ones, so, How Do You Identify The Difference Between Anco, and Trico?

Same company now. Anco was bought by Trico. They also own Fram and Airtex, too. Tenneco sold Anco while picking up Federal Mogul.

One comes apart by squeezing the clip at the end of the rubber blade (refill) [known by Trico as Latch Lock] and the other comes apart by pressing the red button on top of the blade about halfway from the arm mount to the end of the blade.

Which????

Seems the red button style is Anco:

Several other sites also agree with this, but it's been 50 years so reproduction parts may have items not quite as original.winking smiley

The red button type refills had a stop at both ends, so they would not slide into the blade fingers from the end. I would bend the fingers slightly to get them in when I bought the wrong ones 40 years ago.grinning smiley

I just got some refills that I purchased through flea bay [www.ebay.com]
The seller did say they were "old stock" but I was surprised to see a 6/17/11 date embossed on the rubber.
These were NAPA 60-1502 / 46-150 refills that may or may not work but I took a chance and bought them. I guess time will tell.

I continue to get the trico refills, 15 and 16 inch at my local NAPA. Sometimes the new guy behind the counter doesn’t know where to look, order and shows up next day. Good day, pete

The 17" refills from RockAuto work fine. I had already ordered them before I found out Clark's sells the right size.

Yes, 11-15 is the Anco refill number.

But, I have not been able to buy this refill from my local store for MANY years. And, Rockauto does not show the part number, either.

As I stated above, I buy Anco 31-15 - which includes the plastic holder. I remove the blade and throw the plastic away as I use the original metal Anco arms / holders (red push button).

I should add that the Trico blade holders are different from the Anco blade holders. Cannot remember the actual difference - other than on the Anco, you push a red button to release the blade from the arm when replacing.

But, both of my 65 Corvairs are Anco...

The Anco 31-15 still have that stop (small metal spring clip). (Well, last ones that I bought.)

It is not molded into the rubber. I just pull it off with pliers and throw it away.

Explain more. The clip has "hooks" to it to the rubber. You need to spread the "arms" to remove the clip without damaging the rubber.
