And for those as inexperienced as me on Corvairs, below are the pictures of the rear cowl with a lip like mine off of a 65 and the other, without a lip, I'm pretty sure is off of a 66. There is a difference in the hump in the middle too.
Mine had 5 screws buried under the butyl.

Now I'll clean up where mine sat and put a nice coat of POR-15.

The one without the lip looks like it might be for a 4 door. It is not the same part as the red one.

After looking at some of my cars I believe that the one without the lip is for a conv. Which makes sense because they don't use the same kind of window moulding as the 2 and 4 doors.

You're correct, a 66 convertible. I've only taken used parts from a convertible which is now gone and a 65 coupe. And now I can get rid of this piece.

Last week I took the transmission/differential to Dan Brizendine to be rebuilt. I attached the pictures he sent me. Overall not bad, I'm just glad it's getting refreshed and another item checked off the list.

In the meantime I removed the rear lid so it's easier to sand and prep the cowl area. Also continuing to scrap in the engine bay.

If you do stuff a fake NOS bottle in there, make sure you light it up with some L.E.D.'s at night!

What is the difference between these two boxes?? Why does one have the rectangular black box, and the other doesn't??

The one with the rectangular box came out of my car and the other came out of the parts car. Both seem to be in the same condition. I'll rebuild and paint one to install, just curious what the rectangle is for.

That is the sixty-five mystery box!
You and half the Corvair world wants to know what it was for.
The other half believes it was going to be the fresh air inlet, but GM realized the fresh air needed to have equal pressure, as the engine ducted air.
Without the change, the hot engine air would over power the non-pressurized Fresh air..
It was just capped off, because they never used that plenum for fresh-air.
It was totally deleted after that first run.
