Hello corvairCenter community. I have created a GoFundMe page for soliciting donations for the conversion of the corvaircenter forum to a moden forum codebase. Excess funds raised will be used to support the forum and pay for future expenses like domain registration and web hosting fees.

If you are inclined to make a donation, click here: https://gofund.me/58512918

Also, I used a picture of my Corsa in the ad. If you have another corvair image you'd like to see - PM it to me. If I get more then one, I'll pick one randomly confused smiley

I would imagine, you could send it directly to CORSA, with a designation that it goes towards CCF, and they WILL make sure the funds are allocated correctly.

No. I reached out to CORSA to try and get them to accept the donations on behalf of the forum. I contacted 3 of the CORSA Officers - none of them ACK'd my email. Currently all donations are just accumulating in our GoFundMe account. I'll try again when we have the funds to get started.

This is a copy of the email I sent last week:

Quote

Hello X, Y and Z,

My name is Alec Carlson. I have been working with Danny Davis making changes to the corvaircenter website over the last year or so. Recently I moved the website to a new web hosting service that is cheaper, faster and better supported. That move was the first step in converting the forum to a modern website codebase. We are now looking at starting Phase II which is converting the forum from the old Phorum codebase which is obsolete and no longer supported to a phpBB based forum which has support, gets periodic updates and has many features that Phorum doesn’t have.

This migration is a complex process - I won’t go into the issues involved with it. We have identified a 3rd party company which claims it can migrate the Phorum SQL database (25 GB of data) to the latest release of phpBB, including all users, messages, attachments, images and PM’s. There is a cost associated with having them do the work and we need to make sure we can pay for it before we get started.

I took a quick poll of the corvaircenter members and everyone who responded recommended using a crowdfunding solution in order to pay for the conversion. This approach has 2 benefits: (1) it doesn’t cost CORSA anything and (2) it provides money for website expenses like domain name registration, hosting fees, and backup capability.

However, it occurs to me that if we use GoFundMe to solicit donations, the donation money should go into CORSA’s bank account, not one of the forum members bank accounts (and not mine). CORSA would then write the check to pay for the forums expenses out of membership donations.

So, what I’m asking is: is CORSA willing to accept donations on behalf of the corvaircenter forum and then pay our expenses out of that donation pool ?

If so, please let me know who I need to work with in order to facilitate this arrangement.

Thanks -

Alec Carlson

Sorry - that's an old-school acronym for acknowledged. It comes from the protocols used by computer software which allows computer systems to talk to one another. Ie - you send a request (REQ) and you wait for the ACK.

Sorry Alec,
I was way behind on my emails. I just responded to you and will know more shortly. I am sure there will be no problem routing the donations through CORSA but I need to get approval from a few others.

Thanks for what you all are doing!

Enjoy the Corvair!

Paul,

Just got your email - Thanks for following up on this.

When you're ready, I'll transfer all the GoFundMe donations to you/CORSA so you can handle dispensing that money to cover the corvaircenter expenses.

Thanks for your support !!

My check has been in the mail for a couple of days. As others have stated I have gotten a lot out of CCF in both information as well as business here at the shop.
