I would venture that different trucks, would have seen different levels of use, and abuse.

Here is a photo I found from another 1963 Rampside.

See any evidence that yours had this at one time?

This is where the Bell System Logo was placed on the Corvair 95 models

The glove box has evidence of a tag that looks to be the same size as the one pictured above.

Joel: What’s going on with the square hole in the front with the license plate? It’s obviously intentional, but for what purpose? Any ideas?

No clue on the hole. It doesn't look like a damaged section was cut out unless they really had no idea what they were doing.

Wonder if that could be a mounting point for a ladder rack? I’ve seen utility vehicles with all kinds of creative ways of mounting overhead racks. There may be mounts or mount points inside that hole in the front.

I'm doubtful that a Rampside would have carried an extension ladder, but a van could have. Phone company Station Installation Manuals of the era often showed how the extension ladders were mounted on the service vehicles. I have images and drawings, such as this one of a Corvair 95, as well as of Econolines, showing how the ladder was mounted. This particular image was provided by Joe Darinsig for an article in Corvanatics many years ago.

That’s cool Steve. Thanks for posting that. When I delivered new vehicles we would sometimes get utility pickups and SUV’s with strange overhead mountings on them from the factory or aftermarket specialty shop that made it difficult to fit on a car carrier. It would not surprise me to see a Rampside with an oddball overhead setup. Not from the factory, but from the utility company shop. If it were mine, I would look over the tail section for signs of an old installation as well. Interesting conjecture. We will probably never know without finding an old picture somewhere.
