#145 Early 1963 4-speed Rampside Bell truck
Posted by: joelsplace ()

And this time the number matches the engine (or at least the original engine)
'63
It has a LM car engine but it came with an FC block and generator mount and a ton of other old rusty parts in the bed.

Also a passenger...
What is it?
There are at least 3 of these wheel covers too. What do they go to?
They are 14"

Looks close to 63-64 Bel Air / Impala?

Not sure of insert - camera perspective?

Floor is probably gone but the outside looks pretty solid.

Enjoy the Corvair!

#145 would make this the 4th earliest FC on record. Is it a Flint or St Louis build? Can you share the VIN and data plates codes for the FC Registry? A Bell van is likely to have "spec" as the paint code.

Oh, it's a '63 (I was thinking '61 - can't read!).
What are the indications it's a Bell Co. truck?

The guy I bought it from said it was. It has some heavy lug tie down anchors.
I'll have to check the paint code.

Here's the paint code. It is right for a Bell truck isn't it? I read they all said SPEC. I realize that other special orders could too. What else can I check?

And another picture of the ramp critter.

Look for:
VIN plate with add'l stamping for fleet order
Aux flasher/lamps installed
Dash/dispatch box cover plaques
Evidence of heavy spools rolling up ramp, bottom of well.

Joel,
That's certainly evidence that it was a Bell Company van, but as you noted, not conclusive. I would like to see remnants of an emblem or some other artifact associated with Bell Company function.

Here's a nice example: Corvair Center Forum

It looks like there may have been an emblem of the driver side door, but it's not discernible in the picture.

It is a darker green than that truck but after 50 years of unknown fading who knows?
The VIN is normal.
It does have a flasher which is unusual for a base truck.
I don't see any evidence of heavy spools rolling on the ramp.
Here's pictures of the tie downs and flasher.
