If so what kind do you have and are you pleased with it?

I'm looking to get one and they range from mid $200 and up..

Any good tips about them as well?

Thank you,
Tony

Following, I need to replace the exhaust manifold studs (some broken) on my 2005 8.1L Suburban this summer and am thinking one of these might be really useful

Its aluminum head 8.1? Just weld some nuts onto whatevers left and pull them out. No heating necessary.

If it's the end stud you might be better off with a repair bracket

BTW you can still get the real deal studs and nuts from Workhorse parts. Not some after market junk

I have welded nuts to studs before to get em out, that certainly works as well. I was just looking for an excuse for a cool new tool!

Since trucks have got to be so dang expensive I have decided to put some $$$$ into this rig to keep it going for a while, so I am planning on machining the manifolds flat and reinstalling with all new studs. I think 3 or 4 are broken at the moment, and the exhaust fumes get sucked into the interior through the HVAC when idling so its got to get fixed.

Back on topic though, it looks like there are a couple options:

An Amazon type for around $200

Or the name brand Induction Innovations for around $600

Right. The $600 Venom is a known device to mechanics and body shop people. Never a bad thing said about it. It is the $200 ones new to the market all the home hobbyests wants to know if works.

I've got a number of task to do. I thought it be a good investment and make the jobs easier with less chances of breaking stuff. Grin

I also thought it be useful with my 6500ES in a pick-n-pull..
If I ever find the part I need.

Unfortunately, a good number of junkyards are not like they use to be a few decades ago, when it comes to those who build off the wall stuff and need to know what year fits what. Grin

(If you can't provide the YR MK and Model you want the part for they can't seem to help you find something that will fit your custom build.)

How did you deal with the studs that had a nut on each side of the heat shied?
