() Date: March 20, 2023 01:51PM Feel like I experienced all of that Dave! I just had a SUCCESSFUL hot start 1 hour after the fact. That is a FIRST with this engine. I’ve been fighting this since break-in when the engine was on the ground. () Date: March 26, 2023 09:16PM I'm still wrestling with flooding of my carburetor. To fix the problem, I replaced the needle and seat with a kit from Clark's, and readjusted the float. This did not fix the problem, so I'm beating the bushes to find the problem. The kit from Clark's came with 2 gaskets in the shipping bag, along with a couple of clips that weren't associated with the old parts. Can anyone explain why there are 2 different thickness gaskets and what the clips are for? 1966 140 Monza PG convertible Ventura County, CA Re: gas pool in secondary carb Posted by:

() Date: March 26, 2023 09:27PM I also tested the electric pump pressure and it is 4psi. No leaking from the other 3 carbs. 1966 140 Monza PG convertible Ventura County, CA Re: gas pool in secondary carb Posted by:

() Date: March 26, 2023 11:11PM You use the different gaskets to get the float tang perpendicular with the tip of the needle. If it hits the needle at an angle it puts a side load on it and can make it leak. Sometimes you have to stack gaskets. No need for the clips. () Date: March 27, 2023 01:12PM OK, I keep staring at your pic - trying to figure it out. My old eyes see a "tube" across the throat of the top. My secondary tops do not have this "tube"? Grasping at straws: Have you checked the top with a straight edge to see if it is warped? Years ago, my feeble memory recalls a thread (Coventuredave?) discussing the base of venturi clusters being warped? Re: gas pool in secondary carb Posted by:

() Date: April 03, 2023 09:18PM OK, the resolution to the venturi dribble problem. I talked to Corventure Dave in person and got his advice. I put a kink in the float spring to increase sealing force and increased the float height adjustment from 1-1/16" (the manual value) to 1-1/8". This cured the bowl overflow problem. A road trod by many a Corvair owner... Thanks again to Dave and to others who offered advice in this thread. 1966 140 Monza PG convertible Ventura County, CA Re: gas pool in secondary carb Posted by:

() Date: April 03, 2023 10:40PM Ay VairTer, Absolutely my pleasure. I'm glad it was a easy fix. May I recommend that when you have time, to also check and adjust the other 3 float springs. Time to get out and enjoy that Corvair. ![]() Corventure Dave Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum. |
