() Date: March 10, 2023 12:37PM I am ready to do the interior of my car (factory black) and I want to paint the doors and dash before I install the interior. does anybody have a good suggestion on a decent spray paint brand? Also is standard black the right one, or is there a specific shade that should be used? my car is a 65 Corsa I was thinking of ordering from eastwood, but I am totally open to other options Thanks in advance Re: interior paint Posted by:

() Date: March 10, 2023 01:43PM If you search the site, there was recent discussion on interior paint. There are 2-3 sheens used in stock-form for most colors - not sure on black. Eric P. DeWitt, IA Re: interior paint Posted by:

() Date: March 10, 2023 02:20PM The metal on the side panels in the rear and the metal on the doors should be 60% (semi) gloss black. The entire dashboard metal frame is painted 0% gloss (flat) black Local auto paint shop should be able to provide paint for the job. SEM is a good quality brand. () Date: March 10, 2023 04:18PM You're lucky yours is all black. I had to have a shop mix custom matched paint for mine. Anyhow, To expand on what Dan said, The dash is flat gloss, Everything else is what GM called 60% gloss which is a semi-gloss or satin depending on the brand of paint you use. So the kick panels, interior doors, steering column, and pillar plastics are semi-gloss/satin. I had the fun of the dash color being a dark blue/gray flat and the kick panels and column being the same color in semi. I had custom rattle cans mixed, then shot over with clear in the proper sheen. I have a 65 Corsa, and my wheel was a combo of both interior colors (dark and medium slate). However, the steering wheel was definitely more glossy than even the 60% that was on the column and the doors. Whether that's from use, or it was actually different from the factory but undocumented I'm not sure. Anyhow, if mine was black, I would have elected to use a good quality flat and satin basecoat, and then probably would even satin clear the doors, and the steering wheel with a 2k clear in satin sheen for durability. -J Edited 4 time(s). () Date: March 10, 2023 05:21PM I went to a local paint shop at lunch and they had the books from 65, but was not able to find the same paint in their mixing computer. The guy said to come back when the older guy was there and he should know. Re: interior paint Posted by:

() Date: March 10, 2023 05:32PM Yea, you won't have any luck with finding a match for interior color codes. Those codes are long gone. Many of us have been through this already. Your best bet if you want an exact match is pull a door card and have them put a spectrophotometer on a flat surface that hasn't been beat by the sun. If it's black, I've found that the RustOleum 2x satin black is really close to the blacks on my car. Others should chime in though, I haven't tried to match interior blacks. -J Edited 1 time(s). () Date: March 10, 2023 06:09PM so, I found some good info from the corvair kid. there is good info for 1966 and it seems that 65 and 66 had the same interior paint. so I am going to take this info to the paint shop and see if it lines up with the right black corvair kid Re: interior paint Posted by:

() Date: March 11, 2023 12:49PM When it comes to black, not all blacks are created equal. Just find a brand that has the proper sheen, and stick with that. 99 44/100 of the people that look at it will never know the difference. The 54/100 person that does claim to know the difference is only lying to you. May the black paint force be with you. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Woodstock CT... () Date: March 11, 2023 02:47PM I talked to the paint shop and they said my best bet is to find someplace that sells lacquer if I want it mixed to the exact color, here in CA that may be impossible. I might be able to get base mixed right and get close with existing clear coats and still be able to get them in spray cans. Re: interior paint Posted by:

() Date: March 12, 2023 10:04AM The only place that I know of that sells lacquer paint is TCP Global, and I have no idea where they are sourcing it from. I was able to buy lacquer paint up till 2 years ago when the manufacturer discontinued selling it to the distributors. My best guess is it is coming from an overseas manufacturer. Some states have banned it, so even though it is available, you might not be able to have it shipped to you.
