I have a question about the air distribution box. Did they change the design in 63-64 production?

I was reading the Book by Greg Riley and he mentions about looking for a broken pivot inside the air distribution box. (see attached)

Both of the ones I have do not have any type of pivot that I can see the right control nob is connected to a cable that goes right through the box and exits the back? (like red line)

Yes. There is a pivot and non pivot style. I don't know when they changed.

The change occurred with the 1964 model year. Attached photos are from 1963 and 1964 Assembly manuals.

I’m looking to put ac in my 62’ anyone have the sheets that show all the dealer install? Also for these factory units has anyone looked for a up to date evaporator coil to replace the original? So you can run more modern Freon?

Clarks published a book about factory air conditioning that has all the needed information. You can also find the information in the 1962 Chevrolet Accessory Installation manual. It isn't difficult, but it does take time to do it correctly. Finding all the small parts is the difficult part, especially the special choke rod that is needed for the carburetor. The best way is to purchase a car that already has the air conditioning components and then transfer them to your car. That way you will have everything you will need and all the small parts. The factory assembly manual will also be of big help. Some items such as the heavy wall refrigerant hose were discontinued a while ago, and can be difficult to source. The good news is that the installation manuals give you the exact length needed, so you don't have to buy more than you will need. I might be able to help with the hose, but I am not certain that I have enough of all 3 sizes that were used.

Oh yeah I put factory ac on my 68' and boy late model setup is a nightmare! STILL trying to fit it in after years of messing with it. THe EM looked a little simpler but I havent sat down and really looked. Special choke rod? you mean if its manual choke? Mine is auto choke.
Ill take a look at clarks, I do have some manuals but not sure if its the assembly manual Ill check it out.

The “special” choke rod is only required for 1962-65 Corvairs using the stock condenser mounts. The LH mount prevents rotating the upper choke rod as needed for adjustments, so they made the top of the rod straight and threaded on a swivel. Here is a photo comparing the two

In my installing the A/C in my 65 Corsa, I got to wondering if the E/M under dash evaporator would fit . I already have 3 extra gauges mounted under the ash tray area & thought the E/M unit might just be a good (fair) fit for my car as it is made to surround the radio, where my gauges are mounted. Boy !, that would really simplify the evaporator install. Any one tried that ?

Slaw31, you should have called me. I've put more a/c systems in LM cars than I can count, lost track of them after about the 8th or 9th system. Am currently installing a custom system in a LM show car. It's a combination of the Clark's aftermarket system and parts of the factory system.
