Wow! I was approached by the same guy Charrlyb (he needs to be bounced). I hadn't seen this topic. I responded and exchanged emails with the 3rd party. When I asked him for specific information about the part including part numbers and a photo. It's crickets.

I fell for it.
I was looking for a EM turbine and wheel and got a PM from someone I thought was familiar saying Frank has one, contact him at frankraymond0283@gmail.com.
I contacted him and yes he had one and could I send Paypal friends and family to his son weissruth283@gmail.com.
Thinking maybe Frank was an old guy who just didn't know much about computers and such I did just that yesterday.
Today when I hadn't heard anything about shipping I sent a message to Frank and got a message that it was already sent. I asked for a confirmation number.
I deleted the original PM so I can't look it up.
The amount isn't going to kill me. I've bought a lot of stuff here successfully through the years and just got complacent and stupid. A little overenthusiastic about finding a part I need to finish an engine rebuild and get it out of here.

Another thing to do is eliminate the verb wanted from any request.
Chageing it desired is a way to defeat the algorythm they are using.

Seems that the scammers are hungry. Been seeing lots of For Sale posts on FB that
are very vauge, gerneral in the items Eg: Parting out whole car PM with what you need. Then they respond with a price, but dont state what all of the various items in question are available. "Is the price acceptable?" etc etc..

Then doing a google reverse image search find that said "vehicle' is listed on Ebay. Clearly someone has screen captrued the images..... but who? Part seller says is in FL,but car seller says it's in Montana.

The truth surfaces when asking for detailed pics of the parts and then asking "are you selling the whole car? Where is it located? Why is there another ad for same on ebay in another state?

This is going OT from the OP, but people are already following this thread. Some guys are now insinuating it may be the fault of the software used here. The point being, nothing is safe, so protect yours. I always thought checks and USPS was the safest way to handle things.



About a year ago Wife wife took our Real estate and quarterly IRS payments out to out mail box. About $10K worth. A little while later she noticed the box door was open and the flag still up. The box was now empty. We called the cops and they said it was the third call that morning. The crooks hit about 100 mail boxes in our township that morning and were never caught. We had to stop payment and close the account, then switch all our auto pay stuff. What a PITA. One neighbor had just mailed a check for funeral expenses and didn't know it was stolen, that turned into a real mess for her, plus legal fees. We now hand carry outgoing mail to the post office and take it inside. The local news paper said they were hitting the big USPS boxes right under the security cams that were outside at the post office.

Buying and Selling of parts by private parties, is simply an incidental fringe benefit shared by the collective membership.
It is NOT CORSA's responsibility to monitor, regulate, or control such activities.
Asking CORSA to do so, would be the quickest way possible to get this beneficial side activity (ie: buying & selling) totally banned on the forum.
If this is what is wanted, then let the thread roll.
If not, then we need to lick our wounds, and get on with life.

I accept full personal responsibility for being a dumb ass and falling for fraud Frank Raymond in a PM.

It's nice that Corvair Center deletes bad people as soon as they become aware but I'm still a dumb ass.

You don't have to be a dumb ass, these folks are ruthless. We had our credit card hit a few times. The CC company suggested we put a block on I tunes and I games. What happens is the crooks make some very small transactions, buying this stuff so they can sell the card number and have proof it good. We blocked those transactions and that stopped it. We do get notified when someone attempts it, but its OK because the card has no value to the crooks.
