I always imagined the engine in the front like a regular Funny Car. Regular Funny Car sounds like a contradiction of terms. There actually was a rear engine Funny Car campaigned by Dunn & Reath. It was competitive and won the NHRA World Finals at Ontario back in the late 70's. I was there to see it happen - man, it makes me feel old to say that. Attachments: Re: Corvair Drag Car Posted by:

() Date: December 15, 2022 12:50PM Correction to the above. It was the NHRA Supernationals (1972), not the World Finals. Like I said, I'm getting old. Re: Corvair Drag Car Posted by:

() Date: March 08, 2023 02:03PM I'll just pipe in to say I very much love reading about the John Player Special (guess why) and I consider it a true Corvair because, the engine was placed where it was based upon regulations which determined how far the engine could be moved from the original position. Hence, while not a true "rear-engine car" per-se, the engine in the John Player Special was further back than other Australian racers, because the rules allowed for the fact that there was a rear-engine inside the car before modification. Other cars had to have their engines closer to the front because they were modified from front-engine vehicles. John Player played by those rules, and waxed everybody's tail, until they changed the rules to stop him from winning so darn much. Eric C.
