() Date: November 29, 2022 03:31PM Nothing really additional to add here, but I was enjoying everyone else's interests. This thread got almost 1500 hits in a couple of weeks. This is more of a bump to keep it going. Maybe someone new will jump in. Kay Dee found something she enjoys as much as riding in my Vert. Also, make a great I-Pad holder. Lastly, some fly fishing in the Yellowstone River. () Date: December 12, 2022 02:38PM [youtu.be] This is sort of an OT of an OT subject. I used to play with rockets with my brother was we were kids. Then more recently with my younger son. We often aimed them at the broad side of a barn about 1/3rd mile away, rather than using chutes. Hey it was fun. Anyway my son just sent me this to remind me. Some of you might find it entertaining, if not just shut it down. () Date: December 13, 2022 04:57AM My brother was into chemistry, so when he was 14 he tried to make a rocket out of an old CO2 capsule. He set it up for launching on the gutter of one of the house's downspouts. When he lit it, (he said) it didn't "fizzle" right, so he hit the ground. It exploded and one of the pieces of shrapnel punched a hole in the roof gutter 14 feet up. Another piece hit him in the shoulder, cutting a gash to the bone. Had it been 6 inches to the right it would have hit him in the neck and probably killed him. That ended his experiments in rocketry. His high school friend also tried to concoct some kind of rocket propellant and blew part of his hand off. So much for teenage rocket wizardry. My brother (and his friend both) survived, and eventually earned a Master's degree in chemistry, only to fall out of the profession and end up as a (mostly) wedding photographer. That profession collapsed with the advent of the digital camera/phone. Suddenly everybody's uncle is a wedding photographer. -Mark Re: OT: Other Hobbies? Posted by:

Wow! Plenty of R/C aircraft folks on here. I used to design R/C model airplanes and sell them online and at events. I sold several of my more popular designs to hobby manufacturers when they became popular. I also would travel all over the US for Hacker Brushless and Aero-Model USA doing airshow demos flights of electric R/C planes as a team pilot. This was back when few people had ever heard of brushless motors or LiPo batteries. I'm also a two-time USA National Champion in electric R/C sailplane competition. I have an affinity for fixing many things that are old, outcast or different. My latest project was reviving this 4WD 87 Subaru wagon. Yes, just like a Corvair, the spare tire is in the engine compartment. ![]() This one is 1.8L, 5-speed manual with selectable 4WD on the fly.
