() Date: November 17, 2022 09:01AM A nice write up on the story of the EV-1 and its history. GMs EV-1 David Malcolm 1969 Monza PG Coupe NJ near the Meadowlands Re: OT: the EV-1 Story, GMs electric vehicle Posted by:

() Date: November 17, 2022 12:03PM Our city's government acquired one of those EV-1's. My first experience with an electric car was trimming trees out at the curb. Not hearing any car nearby I stepped backwards into the street to get a better view of which branch I was cutting next. It was only when I heard the subtle crunching of loose gravel particles on the pavement that alerted me that a vehicle was VERY near by. The driver distracted was looking down at paperwork. Though startled as I jumped out of the way it was the first time I remember seeing a EV-1 in the "wild" and rather close up at that. Now I understand why my son in laws Maverick Hybrid truck has that fake engine sound. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ***'61 Lakewood, a "Freebie" in hibernation for 28 years - In the process of applying CPR.*** Re: OT: the EV-1 Story, GMs electric vehicle Posted by:

() Date: November 17, 2022 01:56PM The movie 'Who Killed the Electric Car' is a good watch - lots of EV-1 content. Eric P. DeWitt, IA Re: OT: the EV-1 Story, GMs electric vehicle Posted by:

() Date: November 18, 2022 09:36PM Back in 1996, I worked for Florida Power and Light and they had one coming for the employee to test drive. I was reading meters at the time, so I rushed to finish to get to the corporate office before the last drive. As I pulled up the GM rep was putting the car in the truck. I begged and begged the GM rep to let me take a test drive. He pulled the car out of the trailer and gave me a complete test drive for about 30 minutes answering every question I had. The only issue was the batteries were very low and top speed was about 30mph. It's a day I will never forget. Re: OT: the EV-1 Story, GMs electric vehicle Posted by:

() Date: November 19, 2022 09:13AM I always found "Who Killed the Electric Car" to be kind of a hack job on GM. No sense of history, and the general theme was that the company didn't stop EV manufacturing for any reason except to protect their own market share with IC engines. A dubious conclusion at best.
