Yes, according to the LA Times:
“I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am ok. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet,” the TV show host told The Times

All the Best, Jay!

My hope is that he didn't inhale super heated gasses. Any damage to his pulmonary system will make his recovery much more difficult.

My best to Jay, hoping for a speedy recovery. Is it terrible of me that I hope this wasn't a Corvair?

Jay said in a statement, “I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am ok. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.”

Certainly sounds like he will be okay...no damage to eyes or ears according to reports. I wonder which car it was that got him.

I've known three people that have gone to the Grossman Burn Center with 3rd degree burns...they are the best in the country.

Wouldn't wish a gasoline burn injury on my worst enemy.
For what it's worth, the personnel in burn units are some of the absolute best and most dedicated folks in the medical field.

Wow. I wonder if it was a carburetor back fire.
Speedy recovery wishes. Will be good to hear the details
when time allows.

From a news report that I just read, his mechanic said "Leno was working on a steam car when he got sprayed with some gas and it ignited".....
For what its worth....I'm sure more details will be forthcoming. He said he 'never lost consciousness" and sounds like he called the fire department himself. Tough guy!

Things happen in an instant sometimes. Yesterday my associate sent grinding sparks flying into the pan of gas I was using on the bench and it could have been bad.

And don't send sparks to a charging battery either.
Don't ask how I know.
And it was 20 feet away !!

I suffered gasoline burns a couple years ago. Gas burns very hot and very fast- which is great for an engine but bad for skin. Thankfully my burns were not that bad and my recovery was swift and full. But it was no fun.

I seen a charging battery explode when I was a kid, it sent chunks of lead and plastic from our driveway over the house and into the pool. luckily no one was in the blast zone, It went off when my dad got in and tried to start it. The cool thing is, it was a diehard battery from sears with a lifetime warranty, so we found the parts that had the name on it and got a free replacement.

Latest news is that Jay was at the Burn Unit passing out cookies to the kids who were there with him also being treated. Sounds like classic Jay.

Dr. Peter Grossman, medical director at the Grossman Burn Center, said last week that Leno was in good condition after undergoing a surgical excision and grafting procedure for his burns.

"Some of the burns to the face are a little deeper and a little more concerning," Grossman said. "Currently, there's no evidence of nerve damage."

The doctor added, "I do anticipate him making a full recovery. Whether they'll be remnants of this injury, it's still too early to tell. I'd say that his injuries are serious, his condition is good."
