I have a problem With my door locks. The cylinder would not turn to lock the doors. I replaced the cylinder and it still won’t lock. When I used a pair of needle nose to turn the key it would lock. After a couple of times the pliers would turn the key and the lock would slide and wouldn’t lock the door. I’ve looked in the Assembly Manual, the Shop Manual for 1961 and the 63 supplement and cannot find a clear schematic of the front door locks. Any suggestions or help will be appreciated.

Have you cleaned and lubricated the lock mechanism? Most times that the key will not work in the door lock, it is because of built-up crud that needs to be removed and the mechanism cleaned.

I did clean the mechanisms. That fixed the passenger side but I think the driver side will require some replacement parts.

Compare the right side to the left side and determine if any of the linkages is bent or misaligned or even possibly flipped over when it was reinstalled by someone in the past. With the age of these vehicles, it is difficult to know what was done by whom, why, and when. If the door latch works properly opening and closing the door, my guess would be that something is misaligned. Also check the lock itself, since the backside of the lock is different left from right where the linkages enter.
