Is there any trick or shortcut to removing the backing/hold downs for the seat buttons?

I used the search here and came up empty... but I googled it and it pointed to an old thread here and the suggestion was using a box cutter, which I was experimenting with earlier. Unless there is a better plan, that's what I will be doing.

Using the technique shared on CCF - performing an external search with the format “search string here” site:corvaircenter.com consistent yields the best results.

removing 66 seat buttons site:corvaircenter.com yields many good results, including this: [corvaircenter.com]

if not re-using seat or panel vinyl, cut through the material around it. Then work the material off the button.

Panel buttons, cut away majority of the material holding material with pliers,
Then apply a glue softener agent to the material back and sides of button.side. It will penetrate. Pull remainder of the material off after glue has softened.

Seat buttons, remove the backing nut gently with a thin metal slid under it after material is removed. Raxzor knife can hurt, you so do not use it. Jewelers screwdriver is a better option.
