() Date: September 20, 2022 07:31PM Can the front wheels turn full lock to lock without wheel well damage? Might need a baseball bat treatment. ![]() I installed a lot of ground effects kits on cars (99% not Corvair) back in the 80s. Look good at first, but look bad once they are driven into bugs, rocks and concrete parking lot stops. ![]() ![]() Just call me Debbie Downer. () Date: September 21, 2022 06:43AM My car is fairly low in front. Fender lip is slightly rolled (from poor body work). Turns lock to lock just fine, with this wheel and tire set-up (or any of the other wheel / tire combos I've autocrossed this car with. Its cut 2.5 coils in front, I believe, on standard coils. () Date: September 21, 2022 08:07AM It was for sale in 2014 and featured on Daily Turismo. [dailyturismo.com] It was for sale again in 2016 and featured once more on Daily Turismo. [dailyturismo.com] The image is posted quite often in other forums simply as a pleasing view of a classic car. [art.branipick.com] I've seen that exact pic many times because it comes up often on Pinterest-related Corvair searches. I'm pretty sure I followed both eBay auctions out of curiosity but don't recall any owner or sales info. () Date: September 21, 2022 10:00AM Okay, now I'll 'splain: A fellow in NJ, not far from me, contacted me about a car that he was considering buying, from the west coast. He asked for some help in evaluating the car, and the sent me the emails between himself and the seller. It was this car, and everything about the emails from the seller said "scam!" > Priced well below its apparent value > Seller says he's deployed overseas > Seller says his broker will handle everything > Seller says the car is returnable if the buyer doesn't like it > Seller says the car is in Seattle (about as far as you can get from NJ and still be in the 48 states) > Some of the links the seller sent clearly said the car was in Chicago I'm paraphrasing Monty Python: Scam scam scam scam scam scam scam scam WhyImWhenIm64 Re: Whose Car is This? () Date: September 21, 2022 10:04AM I would ask for an ARL report on it before buying. (Google "ARL reports for an explanation). I have sold a few modern cars in the last year and every time scammers have asked me for this report. (See google). Re: Whose Car is This? Posted by:

() Date: September 21, 2022 10:21AM Tell your friend to not even bother communicating with the seller any further. How could anyone think this was a legit sale after all of those scam clues listed? () Date: September 21, 2022 12:51PM I've commuincated with a few "sellers" that were claiming all these thigs: > Priced well below its apparent value > Seller says he's deployed overseas > Seller says his broker will handle everything > Seller says the car is returnable if the buyer doesn't like it > Seller says the car is in Seattle (about as far as you can get from NJ and still be in the 48 states) > Some of the links the seller sent clearly said the car was in Chicago My first reaction to any car I see selling at a price etc that is too good to be true, is that it is. Then I do a reverse google image search. You will find the true selling price of the car was most likely an auction site with the price much more inline with what one knows deep down inside is the real price vs the "too good to be true" price. You will also find the car post on different locations at the same time and for sale in different locations at the same time. Sometimes on the the same site, such as Ebay. Was on the search for a Tubo Deisel Passat a few years back. Found one that seemed almost to good to be true. When I did a reverse image lookup and a google search for the VIN, low and behold, same car, same pix, same vin on four different sites and twice on ebay. The only difference between the listings, was the location, price and the pictures were reversed.... () Date: September 23, 2022 08:17AM Car is in Baton Rouge now, and was static ride. Scary wide wheel adapters holding those meats on. I know the current owner . . . and as nice as it looks on the outside, man does it have some cancer beneath. We have completely rebuilt the rear suspension and front - every single item in the center tunnel beneath has been replaced also. Heater rebuilt. One last trip down to help with front brakes and she'll be back on the road. Current owner flew to north east and drove car home. PO had the car 'appraised' by certainly a non-Corvair person, and likely someone who should never appraise a car again (if it really was appraised in the first place). gerg Monroe, LA Current cars and other fun stuff -> [gregblakeney.smugmug.com] Edited 3 time(s). () Date: September 23, 2022 11:18AM Thanks for the update, Gerg. @Timothy: From Gerg's post, I don't get the impression it's for sale and that makes the West coast" listing a scam. Craig N. () Date: September 23, 2022 04:20PM Ah I see. The scam is the "seller" neither owns it or even has possession of it. I'll bet that scammer "has" numerous other things for sale (airplanes, boats, cars, motorcycles, pianos, etc.etc.). CAVEAT EMPTOR. Re: Whose Car is This? Posted by:
