OT: Recommendations for Carplay-compatible radios for daily driver

I'm looking to replace the radio in my wife's 2012 Honda Civic with a more contemporary radio (aka, "digital multimedia receiver") that works with an iPhone's Carplay.

The features it should have are:

- double-DIN mounting in the dash
- capacitive touchscreen
- wired connection to phone  (wireless connection not really necessary)
- compatibility with Apple Carplay
- support for an add-on backup camera (to be installed later)
- an old-fashioned volume knob would be nice

I'm looking to spend $500 - 800 (this is only a Civic, after all).  The offerings online seem to split into a higher price point tier in the $600-$1200 range (Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony) and a lower tier in the $250 - 400 of no-names.

Does anyone have any experience with these units and can recommend or diss any particular models?

My recommendation is to find one with WIRELESS CarPlay....not a corded one.

Eric-

Why wireless?

Costs more and the connection is often wonky in the wireless units that have been reviewed.

A lot of the time, on long drives, you want to be charging the phone anyway, so a wired connection is what you'd use anyway.

In my case - I always seem to have a flaky cable, or an iphone with the dock port worn out...

I also hate Cords running anywhere in the car - and in a Corvair, its going to dangle somewhere, unless you have a console, or route it into the glovebox, or something.

I would never buy a new car without wireless carplay. Having to fiddle with cords is just annoying, especially in a daily driver. It's great to get in the car with your phone in your pocket and not have to do anything to use Carplay. I know my wife always has her phone in her purse. It's pretty darn rare that I'll charge my phone in the car unless I'm doing a multi-hour drive.
