Casco or Rochester? Chrome or Black knob? 500 & 700 used black plastic and the Monza / Spyder / 900 used the chrome lighter.

The brand matters! They are not compatible with each other's housing.
Look into the lighter socket. Rochester lighter socket has two prongs (and the lighter element is solid, not telescoping.
If the socket has four prongs, that's a Casco unit. The Casco lighter element has an external sleeve that telescopes.
I took some pix of my '66 and '65 for your reference.
Your early model would have a different knob but otherwise they're the same brands and descriptions.
