() Date: August 26, 2022 02:14PM I'm not the expert on this, but I was sold on the pulley in the first place because they said that together with the fan cooling would be even better. I would assume that means there's a slight advantage of cooling as well on the standard fan. But don't quote me on that. Honestly, if it does work with the regular fan, they could make so much more money in volume! Eric C. The whole first part of the video on the Nashfan that was posted by Matt goes into what goes wrong with the stock cooling, and a huge part of the mag fan's short comings really does have to do with the fan gap. It is 15% of the blade height... more or less making the fan "act" 15% smaller than it really is! The big trouble with adjusting the fan gap is that moving the fan closer to the shroud also moves the pulley upward with it and messes with the vertical alingment, and also screws with the idler positioning... more up at the fan pulley causes the idler to have to go forward for the same tension. The airflow pulley allows the fan to go closer to the shroud and not have the original pulley alignment get messed with. The kit comes with a .092" shim and basically chops the fan gap in half, and those standoffs are calibrated with that .092" shim in mind. If you want to go somewhat tighter, its a matter of adding another shim and re-machining the standoffs by the amount of the extra shimming. The standard shim effectively makes the fan act like its 10% bigger, and is a hell of a gain for sticking a shim under the fan!! Also, the slots in the pulley increase the intake area by approximately 10%, and it is a more efficient 10% because its coming down close to the center of the fan. One "fit" related consideration when tightening the clearance is that theres a bolt on the fan belt guide that is often to long. It will hit the fan so it needs to have a shorter one installed. Also, if your fan bearing has ever moved in the housing on its own, lock that thing in place with a set screw! ------------------------------------ Kevin Nash Friday Harbor Washington 63 Spyder, Daily driver, EFI read about my project here: [corvaircenter.com] first test start on EFI here:[www.youtube.com] first official EFI boost test here:[www.youtube.com] My new fan! () Date: August 28, 2022 11:32PM For those who asked about the "custom wrap" around my turbo exhaust: It's just one of those generic fiberglass heat covers you can get for a turbo: [www.amazon.com] Instead of wrapping it around the turbo, I attached it around the exhaust pipe. Works great to help seal the air in that part of the shroud. I also put wrap around the pipes underneath. Eric C. () Date: August 29, 2022 10:11PM Went on a 20 mile loop tonight, to test the efficacy of the new Nash High-efficiency Pulley. The trip started with a steady cruise through neighborhood streets, with the car going to 300 degrees and staying steady, then came the highway and a slow creep to 400 degrees while I cruised at 70mph (give or take). I have had to dance on the throttle before, to stay away from 450, even with the Nash fan, but with the pulley added I couldn't get it past 400(ish), and I tried. Every time I stopped pushing it, and instead ran steady, the needle dropped pretty quickly. I hit the freeway for the return jaunt, and came home reading 370. The temps dropped a little more while idling in the driveway for a minute. I'm told that my car is the first to spend time with a Nash installed separately from the pulley, and then later have the pulley installed without making any further changes to the setup. My overall impression: a very well designed system, and given the fact I don't intend to sell the car, very worth the price. Before the new fan, my engine always spiked in temperature and took time to come down, even when I pulled over to wait. With the Nash Fan only, the car took longer to heat up but still got uncomfortably hot on long drives. With the complete fan and pulley unit, temperature drops were quicker and the increases were slower than they have been in any configuration before. Two enthusiastic thumbs up. Eric C. I know I have a hard time getting my engine temp OVER 300F, with the Nashfan, previously, the same engine ran around 375. No pulley on mine...yet. The entire Atlanta convention - Rally, driving around town, Autocross, and Hot Laps on the Speedway, just a tickle over 300, sitting in 'grid' at the autocross, and not shutting the car down between runs. Temp measured with a Speedhut temp gage, sender in stock 'Corsa' location. Eric P. DeWitt, IA Re: Nash Fan Matching Pulley Posted by:

() Date: August 30, 2022 10:56AM I did simplify it a bit. I have had the Nash on my car ever since the rebuild, though it was with the stock pulley. The stock fan ran on the engine before the rebuild, when the car was perpetually out of tune for reasons known from pasts posts on the subject. The rebuild is slightly over-bore, and with a non-stock Isky 270 cam that makes it run a little hotter anyway. The Nash always ran me between 380 and 420 regularly by itself on that setup. I won't say the new pulley only is the way to go. The two work better as a system together. And keep in mind the Nash fan is considerably lighter than the Mag fan, so horsepower is not lost to it like it is in the mag. I'm also running 20 advance instead of 24, to make my in-town driving a little more steady with the Isky. Under-timing tends to run hotter as well. All together, the fan and pulley are keeping me drivable and cool when the mag would struggle under my configuration. Eric C.
