() Date: August 04, 2022 09:26PM Not sure what year but I understand there is a really low 1st gear trans from an FC ??? I would like to buy one 1964 Bill Thomas Monza Replica Racer 1964 Spyder Street Car 1998 Honda Prelude Dirt track car 1967 Crown V8 under construction Mike Levine Cumming Georgia North of Atlanta Re: WTB Super Low 1st gear FC Transmission Posted by:

() Date: August 04, 2022 10:00PM As I understand the "stump puller" low 1st gear FC transmission was a very short lived item. It was not a full year unit but more like a half a year thing. Re: WTB Super Low 1st gear FC Transmission Posted by:

The powertrain package consisted of the 4.26 low gear transmission, a 3.27 axle, and the 80hp engine. The uber-low 4.26:1 first gear provided good off-the-line acceleration despite the 3.27 axle. I speculate that high-gear, highway performance was unacceptable when loaded because the 80hp engine didnt have enough power to maintain speed with the 3.27 axle. When the axle was changed id-year to 3.89, highway performance recovered, the low first gear was no longer needed, and it was discontinued. Craig N. () Date: August 05, 2022 02:06AM To answer my own question, info taken from Corvanatics; 3782978(case number) 1st-4.26 2nd-2.35 3rd-1.48 4th-1.00 rev-4.27 3785452(part number) - was the "1st design" '61 4sp transmission. It's identified in the earliest P&A catalogs and the engineering documents indicate it to have a 4.26 1st gear; changes to the engineering document correspond with those described in Technical Service Bulletin #690. [See notes below the 4 Speed Transmission table about earlier prototype 4.66 transmissions.] On the Wet side of Washington State one too many cars,(maybe) multiple Corvairs. 1962 Buick Skylark 1967 Datsun 2000 roadster Re: WTB Super Low 1st gear FC Transmission Posted by:

() Date: August 05, 2022 10:48AM Looks like the 64 65 FC trans is what I need , 3.65 first with the larger shaft 1964 Bill Thomas Monza Replica Racer 1964 Spyder Street Car 1998 Honda Prelude Dirt track car 1967 Crown V8 under construction Mike Levine Cumming Georgia North of Atlanta Re: WTB Super Low 1st gear FC Transmission Posted by:

Price is certainly right especially for a post unit but not sure if you are close enough to make it worth the trip. The Islands are a beautiful place to visit this time of year ![]() Is this yours Kevin? () Date: August 05, 2022 02:34PM If you can't find a '64-'5 FC 4sp I believe that you can make a hybrid version with much more common parts. You would need a first design '64 car 4sp and 1st, 2nd gears plus the counter gear from an early 4sp. Not the super low 1st gear trans but the common one used in everything. The counter gear of the early trans is the same as the first design '64 FC trans. A first design counter gear has 1 oil hole where as the 2nd design has 2. The early mainshaft gears will fit right on the '64-'5 mainshaft. The 1st and 2nd syncro assy is the same for all of the '61 -'5 4sp's. For some reason the '4-'5 mainshaft is about .030" longer between the 1st and 2nd syncro assy and the rear bearing. To make up for this the '4-'5 trans has a thicker washer between 1st gear and the rear bearing. I have not put a trans together to try this but I have assembled a mainshaft and everything fits. By doing this you would have the wider ratios of the early trans but you would have the better mainshaft, larger input shaft and the larger reverse idler gear. You would want to use the correct syncro rings to match the year of the gears as needed. RJ tools Salem,Oregon ![]() Re: WTB Super Low 1st gear FC Transmission Posted by:
