74th annual Speed Trials starts next Saturday August 6th.

There will be a few 500+ mph capable racecars present.

As far as I know no Corvairs until World Final in October.

First off it is Speed Demon's final start before load out.

After 500 will be the 257ci E motor...need 348+ mph.

That is just a weather people guestimate. And who (especially me) knows what it really means. It could be the total rainfall expected based on some measurement of moisture in the air.

The problem is; I do not think it would take much water to turn a salt flat into a skating rink.

It depends on where the rain falls. On the track - no racing - no matter the amount.

Basically, it is salt (super absorbent) over fine silty dirt (also absorbent).

Idiots in Death Valley, drive out (illegally) on salt flats by the paved road. Some make deep ruts; the more skilled bury their vehicles to the axle.

When I took my racecar to Bonneville in 2005 the salt was yogurt.

From not very much rain a couple days before...don't take much.

My eldest sister has a Spider.
One of her riding partners is working at Speed Week.
He just sent her this pic, with the statement, "Bike from France, just finished inspecting it."
Unique, to say the least. cool smiley
