() Date: July 31, 2022 11:29AM I've had my car for 20 years! Only to get it on the road about 3 years ago. It's been a long journey with long spans of time and nothing getting done. So I determined that this year I was going to get it painted, with the goal being a paint job that I could repair easily if damaged yet look cool to me. So I am still not finished, however I will share some pictures of what I have accomplished so far and will up date as I get more done. First picture is somewhat after getting started. Also Hope the picture shows up, I seem to have difficulting sometimes getting them to go. new computer with unfamiliar operating system. () Date: July 31, 2022 11:56AM Thanks Mel! When painting I made some big amateur mistakes! (It's been 15 years since I last painted a car) It was a 100*F day out, so I started early (7AM) was painting by 8:30, however the humidity was still to high. This caused the flash time to be slower and in the rush I did not wait long enough between coats. I started the second coat almost immediately after finishing the first coat, thinking that it had been 15 min since I started on the roof. I should have waited another 15 minutes! The first coat gassed off under the second coat leaving little holes everywhere. Also after finishing the second coat there wasn't any runs anywhere, however I layed it on as wet as I could to try and get it to lay flat, this caused sags and runs in many places as the first coat had not kicked enough yet so the wet paint was too heavy and finally started to run. I am planning on sanding and buffing though, so it should be good enough for me. Also I still have the hood trunk and doors to paint, so still lots of work!!! Yeah, & please share with us what you have going on with that exotic looking intake system. Methinks you are going after Eric's "BLUVAIR" look. Nice shade of blue. I was going after Eric's "BLUVAIR" look! I had PMed Eric to ask him what color his car was, decided to paint it that color, then... shared my idea with my Wife. She thought it was too Bright! You know the saying 'Happy Wife, Happy Life', well I did want her to ride in it sometime. That said the color I used while similar is a color that I had decided on a couple of years ago, when I put the blue stripes on the fender. I was looking at many other colors after that but kept coming back to it. Eric's car is very nice though, and I would have been Happy with that color. I think I will like this one too though. The intake was initially Michael Leveque's 6 into 1 4 barrel setup. I decided to install multi port fuel injection and cut off the 4 barrel plate and made the rest for my throttle body install. The throttle body is located where I could easily use the existing linkage to operate it. I had a different twin throttle body design, but finding the correct material and time to build changed my mind to do what I did. In the future when everything else is done and I have that magical time to do it, I want to build my other design. Will Teeter Flintstone, MD 65 Corsa project ![]() Re: New Paint!!! Finally! () Date: August 10, 2022 12:35PM Thank you, thank you and thank you! I have been breaching on here about the proper way to paint a classic car is to take it to bare metal and build it back up. You took the initiative do to so and posted it. Second, you painted it yourself. I have said on many occasions that you can paint your own car; it just takes motivation. Let this be a lesson to those who @#$%& about the high cost of paint and body work. Don't want to pay those fair prices for the labor involved, buy yourself a 5 hp 60-gallon air compressor, good quality paint gun, a 4 1/2-inch angle grinder with braded cup brush, a DA sander and have at it. It beats laying on the couch and is very good exercise too boot. This gentleman, along with myself, are not spring chickens by any means, but we are willing to put the work in do to it right! Get motivated! Your car looks great, nice job! Mike Lake Tucson, Az 65 Corsa 180 65 Corsa 140 sold 66 Monza PG 66 Monza 4sp sold 61 Lakewood sold 61 La[corvaircenter.com] Re: New Paint!!! Finally! () Date: August 10, 2022 01:53PM Thanks! Yes it takes takes more time than one would think, and I have a new respect for those who do quality body work! Yes I did make ameature mistakes, however they can be fixed, and total cost is somewhere around 2K. A little better than $10K! YouTube also can teach you much of the do's and don't's. It's a lot of how much you want to invest in learning! That all said I'm not done yet, working around family time make these projects drag on for longer than I anticipated, but I'll enjoy it soon, hopefully!
