The more I look at my latest early '63 Rampside the more it appears to be low miles. One thing I thought odd is that it has early wheels. Does anyone know when they changed wheels? I'm only aware of 2 different FC wheels. Tube and tubeless type.
From what I understand it is no problem running tubeless radials on the tube type wheels.

Think you need to do more research.

There is a slight difference between tube and tubeless rims.

A quick Google search found the statement that you could use a tubeless tire on a tube rim if you also used a tube.

More research?
I know the difference between tube type and tubeless wheels. The main question is when did they switch on FCs? I Googled for that and didn't come up with anything.

The secondary question was about running tubeless tires on tube type wheels. I don't have an issue with it but am open to any comments.

I don't recall any radial tires being installed on any GM vehicles until the mid 70s. The extra beading is probably to help keep the tire on the rim with the tuck under that was standard on all FCs. This is just an opinion.

I know the difference as far as the bead on the later wheels. I'm just trying to figure out when they changed. My '64 Rampside also has the early wheels on it.

Best guess is that Craig and / or Coventure Dave might know.

I thought about the Owner's Manual, but my 65 manual makes no reference to tube / tubeless tires.

It does show tire pressures for 6 ply and 8 ply light truck tires for the FCs...

Another person that might know is Dave Newell, who is / was the CORSA historian, but I do not know how to contact him.

I believe I'm selling a Cameo Beige 66 convertible 140 PG to a Corvair buddy. I've resurrected it from 7 years of storage and the tires are 20 years old.
Normally I would order 4 new Maxxis 13" but he has a set of 14" wire wheel covers with 3 bar spinners. He also has a set of FC wheels, he says without the nubs and the wheel covers fit securely.
Any drawbacks to installing 5" wide FC wheels on a LM car? Contrary to popular opinion I'm not really a wider is better sort of a guy. Seems like 195 or 205/75/R14 would be available in a white wall.

The exact date I do not know for when they went to the "safety bead" on the FC wheels. From my experience over the decades, up to 1962 there was no safety bead. 1964 and 65 had the safety bead. 1963 is a year in question. There could possibly have been a change mid year. I have seen 64 differential pinion shafts in 1965 car's, along with some other hang over items over the years.
For me, I like the later safety bead wheels, just because they are there.
One word of caution however. Cadillac wheels of the era look like FC wheels. But the off-set is wrong and they wont fit-clear the steering arms on the front of an FC.

Thanks Dave. In my digging I discovered I have another '63 Rampside and it has the early wheels but so does my '64 Rampside...
I only found one of the late wheels out of all my Rampsides. I'm pretty sure some of my vans have late wheels but I'll have to check.
