from France and interested in a convertible turbocharged Corvair
Date: July 01, 2022 11:42AM

Hi Everyone,

I'm Ben, I'm french and I own a Jaguar XJS V12. This car is amazing, but currently, I'm looking for a different old car.
Surfing on the Internet, I discovered the Corvair and felt in love with the convertible turbocharge 1st gen, which is, to me, the most gorgeous one.

There are very few Corvair in Europe so I'm looking also in the US.

Theese days, I've found :

xgAAOSwuARiplsR#vi-desc-maincntr" rel="nofollow">this add on ebay

Of course, buying a car on ebay can be tricky but anyway, the little devil on my left shoulder keeps whispering me to get it.

Could you tell me what do you think about this add ? Is the VIN correct or regular ? Do you know this car ?

Best regards from France.

Living on the wild side! grinning smiley

It was a legit link to ebay. The formatting on our forum sort of messed it up.

ebay link says engine is 2.7 liters, not correct for a 63

otherwise, looks like a pretty nice car

Ben,

The 63 Spyder you linked appears to be worth your consideration.

Perhaps someone on this forum who lives nearby to Waves, North Carolina on the Outer Banks might be able to inspect it for you.

Nags Head appears to be the closest bigger city with Norfolk, Virginia appearing to be the closest large city.

Good luck on your search!

Hi there,

Thanks to everyone for pieces of advice .

The ebay sell is closing about 2hours from now, but the reserve has not been met.
I've written to the seller to settle a meeting with a local Corvair enthusiast. (I've written to Corsa too).
I'll you know if the seller answers me, which is also some kind of test about his will of selling.

The color I'm looking for is dark blue, navy blue or black.

I've found some on Usclassifiedsforall, but this website is asleep or whith fake adds, because no one answered my email and questions.
I've also searched on craiglist but have not found what I'm looking for.
I'm not in a hurry and can be patient.

You also might want to look at Clark's Corvair no Spyder that fit your needs today but next there might. Also Corsa for sale section.

Thanks for the tips.

Considering adds, I was hopping to get a nice corvair about 13 k$, which would lead me to 18k€, beacause of shipping, VAT and differents fees to get the car at home and be allowed to drive.

Am i naive or way too optimistic ?

Hi there,

I told that I'd like to have a turbocharged, but I know nothing about reliability of turbocharged Corvairs.
As I don't know a lot about engines and mechanics, I'd like to know if there is a large gap between taking care of a turbocharge and a non turbocharged Corvair ?
The fact is, couple of days ago, My Jaguar turned on fire and I'm a bit touchy on reliability...
Moreover, even if dashboard on turbocharge seems more likeable to me, there is a really nice set of colors on this convertible

A Full-Gauged Spyder instrument cluster can be installed in any Early Model Corvair, if that is the one thing about the turbo-charged Spyder model that turns you on.
Personally, I wouldn't let a bad experience with a British made Junkwire keep you away from enjoying one of America's funnest little cars.

Thanks for the answer. I won't let My Jaguar because of that, just a bit upset and waiting for the bill...

About the convertible, I was wondering if there is something, based on how the car is just out of the factory, different with the coupe to make if more rigid, some bar or whatever.

As anyone who discovers the Corvair, I've read stories about the Corvair but as I can't try one so far, It's hard to have an idea about that.

Hi everyone,

Just got some interesting informations form french customs. In addition I'd need to know some reliable shipping company.
I've found an interesting add, the car seems nice as the inside, but I'm wondering about the engine change. I guess there is no carburator at the beginning.

this is the add.

In black, this car is really georgeous.

Thanks to anyone who could give me tips.

First things first, it is NOT a REAL Spyder.
It was discussed here recently.
Here is a link to the thread. > > > Click here for Spyder or NOT thread < < <
Second point: Since you are planning to ship it overseas and import it to France, I would probably stay away from this particular car.
While not a problem here in most of our Fifty States, the reassigned title might cause some concerns for Customs Inspectors!

@ Mel, thanks a lot for this, I've read the whole topic.
I could not agree more, french customs will be tricky with this one. Moreover, resale value (which I'm not looking for but always considering) 'll be different with this history.
I'm still a bit lost with differences between spyder and Monza . In addtion I don't know how to read the tag or what VIN I should find.
I have to check at the FAQ to know more about all this.

@ Dave : Indeed, I've reached Paul Dupuis, who has forwarded my target to the french community, wait and see.

Ben.

Hi,

another Turbocharged or so called on Ebay :

It seems that, eventually, new adds appear from time to time.
