Ultravan 534

534 has been located and is in some rough shape. Some homeowners just found it on the back of their newly purchased house.
We are in process of trying to get it and restore, but.... ouch.

I saw an ultravan parked in a yard while driving the backroads of NH. I whizzed right by it and didn’t catch the number. It also looked to be in fairly rough shape.

A V-8 UV. I wonder how close to the end of production #534 was.
The price is right but it will be a bit of a challenge to move, you can't just jack them up anywhere. Probably easier to move than the one in NW Minnesota a few years ago that had all the suspension removed.
It's good that it's not close to me so I can't anguish over it. Easy for me to say but someone should save it.

First post by ScohenNH says they were trying to get it to restore. Hopefully they're busy loading it now before a scrapper shows up with a flatbed.

To the best of my knowledge 22 more V8's with that style body left the assembly line finished after 534.

I think there were 2 more that were not finished when the factory closed and then the 600 series started.

But, I've been known to be wrong before and Owen might chime in and set the record straight - if I'm wrong. Grin

Sorry, folks. We didn't get it. A closer person came, hauled it and it seems to have been scrapped.

If this is true, sad it is being scrapped with only 376 ever made.

Most people, not all, don't want to be bothered with what it takes to save an abandoned vehicle.

Part of the instant gratification mind set I guess. Be done with it ASAP.

Restoring an Ultra Van in that condition is A LOT OF WORK. Looks like it needed everything. You might think about what you want to do with a decade of your spare time.
On the other hand it may not have been as bad as it looked. You get the crap out of it and fix the windshield it's looking better and you probably want an updated interior anyway. I would like to see how someone bends and cuts an interior panel into a ceiling corner.

It's too bad that it went away for scrap. I wonder how much scrap value there is with all the non-metal materials present. If you pull all the aluminum off and put it in a pile it probably doesn't add up to very much weight.
At the very least it's too bad it couldn't give up some parts so another UV may live.

I can understand someone not wanting to wait for the right person. If you turn away the first guy and then the second guy doesn't pan out you may never find the first guy again.
They're very difficult to haul due to the wide track, you're not getting it on a regular trailer with fenders.

There's another thread currently questioning the value of a 64 Spyder with a state reissue VIN tag. I wonder how much more headache a UV with no Title would be. Apparently it was abandoned on the property by a previous owner.

I suppose a V-8 UV is a better vehicle overall and has it's own charm with the aircraft construction and all but the Corvair engine is what would draw me to one in the first place.
It's good that it wasn't in my neighborhood. I make all sorts of bad decisions when my rescue mentality kicks in. Everyone stops and stares when they see one. Just think what you could do...

I wouldn't be surprised if it shows up on eBay as a barn find, and asking 10k for it. drinking smiley
