How I spent my Winter and Spring
Posted by: irfgt ()
Date: June 20, 2022 03:00PM

This is what I have been doing for the last 6 months. This is the Corvair that I bought for my Son back in the mid 80s to drive in High School. I bought him a newer car when he went to College and sold the Corvair. He had always wanted to have it back so last December I found it and bought it back. It was in sad shape but after 6 months it is 90% complete. He has no idea that I have done this and I plan to present it to him when he comes home next week for the 4th. I hope he likes it!

Wow, amazing!! 140hp or turbo? The body looks great. Did you have to restore the engine/mechanics as well? Ken

It could probably be a total price of crap and your son will love it. Deep down it the thought that counts!!

But she does look amazing! Great work! Nice to see father and son relationship grow after we leave the home.

THe engine is a factory crate engine that was installed in 1973 by the previous owner before I bought it the first time. The car sat in a shed for 25 years before I bought it back. It has the original transaxle. It was originally a 140.I have documented the restoration with over 100 pictures.

Here are a few more pictures. The seat covers and convt. top are the same ones I installed 35 years ago. The car originally was burgundy with a black interior and black top.

Truly amazing! Makes my eyes a little sweaty. Now for a cross country trip together that he'll tell his grandkids about one day. Thanks for sharing!

This was my Son's first car and sitting right beside it is my first car I bought in High School. Mines a Turbo though. Can't wait to race him!
